Hi everyone, i acquired a Marantz SACD player (SA-11S2). The player accepts and plays standard compact disks, but I get no sound via the RCA outputs. However SACDs play fine. It doesnt make sense to me. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

The Marantz also has XLR out but I would need to find adapters to try them with my amp.

According to the manual (p.15), there is a Sound Mode button to the right of the Power and Invert Phase buttons on the front panel.

The Sound Mode toggles between Super Audio CD and regular CD. See if this helps.

Thanks, thats not it. "Sound Mode" toggles CD or SACD for hybrid discs. While in "CD", no sound from RCA out. When I switch to "SACD" there is.

Does sound like a setup issue.

I hope so. However, there is nothing in the manual about muting the analog output.

So you have digital and analog connections simultaneously? Why?

If you currently have both RCA and digital connections, try removing the digital connection.

How well does the unit read CD-Rs (or even RWs)? I would want to rule out a marginal/bad laser. What if the signal is good enough to starting reading but error rates are so high than the unit prefers to mute the output instead?
Thanks for the idea, I dont have any CD-R.

I tried a little further and noticed a high pitch noise from the Cinch out. Did not investigate any longer / louder not to damage the speakers.

Think I´ll send it off to an authorized service.

Thanks, did not have both connected. There´s also a "digital off" setting on the player but didnt change anything for cinch out.
