Marantz MODEL M1 Wireless Streaming Amplifier

I bought the M1 a couple of weeks ago and immediately noticed an annoying static/hiss on startup every morning. I received a replacement yesterday, but unfortunately the static was there again this morning. I’m running it via optical from my PC into B&W 705 S3 Signatures with a REL T/9X SE, using the default auto standby setting. What’s frustrating is that I can’t reproduce the issue during the day, even if I let the amp go into standby or switch off the PC. It only seems to occur after the unit has been in standby overnight.

Aside from this issue, it’s a brilliant little amp and a perfect fit for my setup. At this point, I’m prepared to use the Quick Start mode, as that seems to bypass the problem. I’ve looked at alternatives, but nothing else offers the same feature set in such a compact form factor.

If he's going to switch away from the Marantz, might as well move away from a unit with heavy noise shaping to something without, not to another one with similar signal manipulation

I was looking for a M1. Pretty hard to buy a such expensive amp with these issues. Its something that I expect from a Chi-Fi gears..

Many (if not most) amplifiers made in China do not show these kinds of issues (I have three of them in my house: Sabaj, Topping, and 3e Audio). May I add that a large number of high-tech devices nowadays are made in China, and their quality is most of the time higher than that of similar devices made in the US or Europe.

I don’t think that statement is really true about China anymore, maybe it was in the past, but manufacturing quality there has changed a lot. My B&W speakers were made in China and they’re absolutely flawless. Fit, finish, and performance are all spot on. At this point it really comes down to the brand’s quality control and design standards rather than the country where it’s assembled.
