what DAC's are inside
when you tell me where i should make a picture of, i could do that
when i do a picture of the top without case, you wont be able to see/identify any chip at all i guess

I could not tell you which chip it would be. May you could just post 1 or two. I sure a few people on this site would tell us from the pics.

Thanks

Would be great if someone know the answer. If not, given that in the past several years up until 2022, Marantz and Denon have been using the same DAC and volume ICs. If that practice has continued, then it would be the PCM5102A for the DAC.

if someone tells me where that DAC is (on e.g. an older model or so), i can look it up. I dont want to have my AVR open all the time ;)

I was hoping you would be able to tell him what to take a photo of so we would know what is in the Cinema 50. Maybe Amir could help?

i asked the marantz guy (white shirt) in the stream a month ago regarding the chipset stuff, but i cant remember what exactly he said (d+m at grobi.tv)
it was more or less: they are forced to use different chips then before because of corona, some fire accident, some other stuff, so they do not say "it is this and this chip" because when they then dont use it because something happens, its bad.
afaik it is not the same DAC as in the x3800, the d+m guy mentioned something in the video, but ... to confirm/reject that i can not make a picture as long as i dont know how that DAC looks like (so i know what to search for) or where it is located ;)
and i am now too lazy to watch again that 2h video. not sure anymore when my question was answered, but i asked that (similar): does marantz show what components for e.g. the DAC are exactly used (chipset etc.)

edit
i opened the marantz and made some shots
i will leave it without screws for 1-2 days, maybe someone tells me where to look at and i can create more pictures, otherwise i'll close it again and wont open again ;)

oh yeah, cam is quiet bad, lineageos with no proprietary drivers on a oneplus 3t

edit #2: switched now to opencamera with camera2 api, maybe that creates better pictures :)

If the layout is similar to the models it replaced, it will be difficult to take a photo without a good snake/scope camera.

Thank you for the photos. That video seems to be focused on the AV10 and Amp 10. The AV10 will have a better DAC for sure but the AVRs such as the Cinema 40 and 50 are most likely going to have the same ones as the Denon AVR-X3800/X4800H. If they did use a better one they would have told us, as they sort of have (it says ES high end..). When they first switched from TI's PCM1690 to AK4458 and AK4490 they did make enough noise about those DAC but when they switched to the lower range TI chips, the PCM5102A, they kept a lot of people guessing and it only became public after probably thousands of enquiries were made on forums and/or their customer supports. No in such cases, no news is good news does not apply lol..

only partially, there is also a lot for the cinema 50. i would say that 80% of the questions where related to cinema 50. iirc it was something from TI, yes.
Most questions where answered after about 1h, but all in german, so if you dont speak german, u might get some trouble understanding ;)
if you find a "good" snake cam on amazon.de thats not too expensive i buy it and try to create those pictures.

can you recommend one (with shipping in the EU) ? ;)

It is not easy to find the post about the member who used a snake camera but here's a post in which the member mentioned how difficult it was for him to expose the DAC board for the Denon (should be similar to Marantz):

and there is post Amir mentioned the owner of the Marantz AV8805A used to id the dac chip:

so may be you can PM that member.

urk, that does not look "easy". i dont want to take away boards or so. i mean if its only a screw i have to remove to get deeper ok, but if its that hidden...

I think you have an excellent AVR in terms of features and sound quality should be fine too based on the measurements of the Denon. With TI's dac onboard (assuming..), it may have distortions comparable to the SR7015 and AV7705/AV7706 and SR8015 (the non AKM dac one), that means higher, but should still clear the threshold of audibility. SNR should not be an issue as the PCM5102A (again, assume..) does have very decent SNR/DR specs.

Does that mean the Cinema 50 might be an alternative to a 7705/6 if coupled with a suitable amp. I’ve a 7704, but quite like the processing options of the 50, can’t stretch to the av10, and think the evental replacement for the 7706 is still going to be around $4k

If I had the 7704 I would wait another year or two for sure. There aren't much the 50 can do that the 7704 can't are there?

Well, virtualisation and Dirac for a start, though to be fair I went to the 7704 from a 7012. The 7704 is 2017 tech. With. Hypex and Purify amps that made quite a difference. I only use for AV though, as I bypass the 7704 for 2 channel stuff.

the new Atmos audio content is a game changer for me, hence looking at the new kit

What is "new Atmos audio content", is it something new that the 7704 can't play?
Dirac won't be ready for a while yet if you want to take advantage of the DLBC, that's one reason why I would wait. If you can't wait, then I suppose the Cinema 50 can do the job, just that in a year or two you may feel you should have waited. ;) The 7704 is really quite up to date, to a large extent.

i was referring to what Apple are calling spatial audio, but it’s Dolby Atmos encoded music. To be fair it might have been around for a while and I’ve only just noticed , but having enjoyed SACD material for a long while, it’s interesting to how the content is being delivered.

I won’t do anything for a while, just keep an eye out for the reviews. but your comments are making me think I need to revisit how I’ve got the 7704 configured, at least in terms of speaker placement

Got the Cinema50 but it turned out faulty. Thr rear right height channel had hissing and popping issues even without an Atmos track playing. Updating firmware, resetting etc didnt help so sent it back. Back to using the old TX RZ800 and found that it sounds better (tighter bass and wider sound stage) as compared to th3 C50.
Speakers: Polk R700 + R350C + R100 + R900 (2 pairs)
Subs: SVS Micro 3000 + Elac Sub 211D
Options now available: Denon X4800H or Marantz SR8015

Confused which one I should get. I am looking at something which would give similar aound stage tomy existing Onkyo.
