Marantz AV20 13.4 Channel AVP Discussion

Ah, I hadn't even looked there for mine. Manual says there's 3 settings available (Std, Enhanced, 8k Enhanced) with the Enhanced being the Default setting.
Just checked and mine are all at Enhanced.l
All this said if it's not the cable and you tried a different input, that points to it being something about your Shield.
In any case is it worth a worry over, do you believe the Shield is capable of delivering 4/8k video at rates high enough the setting will make a difference?

Well, after spending an entire day tinkering with settings in my projector (Sony VPL-XW6000ES), Shield, and the AV20, I found a workaround. AV20 4K/8K output must be set to standard, and Shield must be set to output 4:2:2, 12 bit, at 23 Hz. Enhanced in the AV20 would support that same resolution at 60 Hz, but I may not realize the difference.

And Blu-Ray is really all I care about for serious viewing, which works just fine.

Ouf of curiosity, I ordered an HD Fury Dr HDMI 4K EDID manager to see if that allows it to work in Enhanced or 8K Enhanced. Will report back in a few weeks.

Impossible for me to know what’s up. Of the 3 cables you tried, were any brand spanking new certified?

When I switched out my AVR to the AV 20, I replaced everything with new RuiPro cables and had zero issues.

Back in the day I had problems with an old PlayStation and that was the fix; ever since then I replaced everything my HDMi cables when I change gear.
I might as well try that. Any Ruipro certified high-speed cable will do? Could you send me the one you have?

And yes, one cable is a week old, others were 1-3 yrs old.

To be clear, not trying to sell you on buying more cabling. ;)

This is what I use on my short runs:

And this for my long run:

(plugged in to an old iPhone 5v wall wart at source end)

I used to use Monoprice, but was turned on to RuiPro as an alternative. No complaints about my old Monoprice usage. I think when we went to the newer HDMI standards, they were slow to get certified cables out and RuiPro was there at a reasonable price for short run all-copper cables.

What is your experience with their fiber optic HDMI cables for long runs?
I use a 50' run and have had around 3 Monoprice ones fail within 2 years.

It's been solid.

The guy who brought all of this up was designing a new room (new house) and was having a fit about HDMI, long runs, and more importantly the fact that most devices cannot power the cable adequately.

The hybrid cable with voltage inserter was his solution for his 50' run and he was happy with performance.

I don't often send from my Mac to my rig, but that is how I have it connected (25' +Voltage Inserter) and it's worked every time I use it.

Small world! Welcome to the family!

Looking forward to hearing your impressions after you get it dialed in. Just received mine today, despite the winter storm here. Will share configuration tips if I have anything unique to offer.
Hello everyone! A happy owner update on the AV20:
After using the AV20 for about a month, I could not have been happier with this purchase. Everything just works beautifully and the sound is amazing. HDMI switching is fast and doesn't have any switching sound either (comparing to my old Receiver, there were lots of "click clack" sound when switching between sound modes/hdmi). No trouble with any of the old cables I was using; watching movies and listening to music all works well.

The AV20 does not heat up, is warm after a full movie, mainly on the back right hand side (seems to only be the AV board inside getting warm).
For the room calibration just using the built-in Audyssey. When I find the time probably will get into Dirac, not a priority; as everything just works well as is.

Glad you like it, I've had mine for 4 months now and feel the same, not a single issue to whine about. Damn time flys.
If it takes me another 10 years (or till the grave  ) I'll be happy.

Svs hdmi 2.1 cable is the best under $50. After $50 u get 3 brands thx hdmi cable $50-400. Wire world $100 plus tough cable i have 5 of these at 16 feet in a customer job. Guess its only 2 brands after 50. Been using these cables for over 4 years on installs zero problems.

Has anyone compared the preamp output sound quality of the AV20 and Cinema30?

Compared, in what way?
The Cinema 40 was tested here and should tell you most of what you need to know.

All, need help please! I finally hooked up my AV20, but I'm having severe HDMI handshake issues with my Nvidia shield Pro (most recent version). It only provides a stable connection in standard mode. If I use enhanced, it sometimes works but I have to connect and disconnect the Nvidia 's power. I seem to be the only one having this issue. Please help!

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

Solution was going into the "HDMI Diagnostics" menu in the AV20's Custom Installer menu, and changing the "Max Resolution" setting (under "Limit Mode) from the default "4K18Gbps" to "no limit." Within seconds, I was able to switch from "Standard" to "Enhanced" without any handshake issues. I guess my projector (Sony VPL-XW6000) EDID somehow required greater bandwidth than the "Enhanced" mode was allowing under the default setting.

If anyone is experiencing HDMI / EDID handshake issues, whether with the Shield or any other source, I strongly recommend going into "HDMI Diagnostics." Found a number of other settings there that are worth tinkering with.

Glad you and @Jorginho are happy! I am 5 days in, and after losing a few days resolving a minor setup issue, I plowed ahead with Dirac ART. Ran my first calibration without any issues and am moving on to tinkering with support frequencies and levels. Will post a table of my results soon in case its helpful to other ART newbies like myself.

Please post advanced ART results to the dedicated thread.
TIA
As Sal noted, that would be the best place as we are trying to accumulate all the ART posts in one place. We are still waiting for Sal's graphs though :D.

If you by chance post it to Trinnov thread, that might be called act of hostility, so be careful (or not) ;).

You may be waiting a long time. :p
I'm really not of mind to spend another $1k on something I can do near as well with free or other very low cost options.

Well the options are always good to have and your wallet is obviously your own. But we will keep waiting. Late converts will better appreciate the results, like late harvest kind of thing :D.

I'm a Linux guy, remember. Our moto is never pay for proprietary software, specially if it's expensive. and can be done otherwise ;)

Any owners here moved from an Anthem to the Marantz? I am considering a sidestep from my Anthem Avm 70 (4k) to the AV20/10. wondering if you noticed much difference in sound quality? I like the Anthem but its test tones during calibration are ridiculously loud so much i fear that it might eventually damage my speakers, plus the whacky reference level setting that drives me nuts.

That’s an upgrade if you are willing to pay more for the DL licenses. I considered the AV20 too, but I mght just get the Tide16 and keep the Anthem for my 2 ch systems.
