I noticed that many of the best sounding small inexpensive class d amps have pop sound when turning them on or off or both

Aiyima-a70,Fosi audio za3, fosi audio v3 (stereo) and Aiyima -a07 does it

WHY, power supply issue ? Some of them even have soft start up ciruit to prevent pop sound !

If you don't want an amp that makes a pop sound with off/on, then get yourself a Hypex or Purifi from Boxem or Buckeye. Never had that issue with these models.

Interesting --I have an Aiyima A-70 and it's on/off is controlled by a WiiM Ultra's 12 volt trigger. It is completely silent when turning on as well as off.

No pop sound on my Aiyima A07 Max (bridged to mono). It's a 100 € amp which delivers a lot. I would not complain if it had one.

I have March Audio P501 amplifiers (1ET7040 Purifi based). Absolutely electrically silent at switch on/off.

I have a nord nc500 three channel connected to a Eversolo DMP A6 which gently pops when turning on and off or changing input sources. What causes it and why is it of any significance ?

Sometimes one must also check upstream when gear pops.
DC output from a pre or DAC for example, can make any amp pop if it's not protected against it.
Or bad grounding scheme,or,or...

Your title implies this is a Class D issue, but then you include only cheap amplifiers. My 1ET400A Class D is silent on switch on or off.

You should change the title to "Many cheap amps have pop sound on or off or both"

I have a 3 channel Nord NC500 rev D and several One Up pairs, no noise at all. BUT I always volume down to 0 when switching off or switch sources. It's just a good habit to get into. I use Mac and they have a ramp up circuit in all of the late model preamps. I still volume down no matter the preamp. Macs have a mute on startup, irritating too. I always turn if off.

I use Behringer NU12,000 with DCX2496 for bass bins, subs and columns, no pops, BUT I still volume down at the amps. I'm just not that lazy. Usually:)

Regards

It's not a Class D thing. Most amplifiers make an electrical noise or slight pop/click when coming out of standby to power on. The only way to completely silence traditional amps it to have a long (many seconds) delayed speaker connection so the circuitry has fully stabilised and ensure the output offset is very low and carefully controlled.

If your amp is DC coupled from the input and your source is not at zero mV offset, you will get a click or pop with the source turning on/off or the amp coming on after the source.

We are a long way from capacitively coupled amplifiers in the early 70s. They made an almighty thump/crack when turned on. No harm done.

To late to change it

I have a nac c717 it's doesn't do it

I just wonder why they do it, some do have a soft start, a power supply issue ?

It's does it on the models that are amongst the best in there price class, amps that most people can afford instead of buying used

Have many of the inexpensive D amps, no pops of any significance. I just power down the amp first, then the source. No problems.

Bear in mind, Amir's test is not a DC coupled/offset test. It is a residual noise test vs time. The coupling is AC on the AP. The conditions of the test are unknown and no conclusions can be drawn from it.

What that means is a DC offset on connection will make a transient and then settle back to baseline residual noise.
