Man, it is damn hot still!

Cycling is fine in the rain (up to about 2 hours). At least in the rain we are having now. Not so much when it is 0C and feels like a billion tiny darts hitting your face. :)
On Thursday we had that fine rain that soaks you through. Basically a cloud at ground level.

It's the worst kind of rain.

I had to walk to the railway station, only ten minutes, was very damp when I got there. Dried out during the train journey.

This is true. But with the rain you can put a coat on and still go out and enjoy the outside.

But (at least for me) 90+F is too hot to be outside even sitting very still.

I personally think we have the best climate in the world. Never too hot to go out. Never too cold to go out. And no beasties with the capability and inclination to kill or maim.

My thoughts exactly, I get grumpy over 25c. But even I'm missing the almost complete lack of summer, as I do like 4 distinct seasons, and we've been stuck in early spring for months.

We're in Florida and summers are like this a lot. The way we do it is run a dehumidifier at night to lower humidity so the AC works much better during the day.

In the car I keep a little Damprid dehumidifier box in the car and it keeps the air dry inside and works wonders keeping the car cooler. Just swap it out each month when it fills with water. Control the humidity and it really keeps air conditioners working their best.

The thing to compare how hot it really is for work is the Wet Bulb Globe temperature or WBGT. Takes into account sun exposure, wind, humidity, and temperature. UAE I have read has a no outdoor work policy between 12:30 pm and 3 pm from June to September.

Yeah, temperature alone is very bad at judging. I grew up in Berlin in live in the tropics and those 3 weeks of summer in Berlin feel hotter than my "11 months of summer" where I live now

I wish regular weather forecasts listed WBGT rather than the much less useful heat index. I have a phone app that gives WBGT based upon your location.

Back in May, and it has not let up.

after 2 months of water and temperatures since the beginning of spring, the heat has arrived here for a few days too. June passed with rain and storms, like never before. At 9 in the evening we were very often around 17/19 degrees C. May ditto. Very singular and out of the ordinary: I read about monthly temperature records in the world: here in the north it's the opposite. Opposite situation in the rest of Italy.

Oddly, here in the Midwest (Iowa chapter), weather has been better than usual this year. Mostly in the 80s, decent rain, grass is green but we're still in partial drought conditions for the farmers. This Sunday and Monday we will have some of the hottest temperatures thus far, although nothing like what's happening in the West or in the East U.S.

I look at the Las Vegas and Death Valley temperatures and just shudder.

I try to enjoy the nice days, as I don't believe the nations of the world are doing anything yet truly significant to fight global warming, and the heat and it's effect on land, water, people and geopolitics is only bound to get worse over time...

Problem is that on the other side of the channel this miserable weather comes with unseen amounts of rain and wind. (2 days back we had a storm again that caused a lot of serious damage). It's been like this for 9 months.

Edit: it just starts raining again...
I was walking my dogs in Brugmann park when the storm hit. Trees fell around us and it was a deluge. When we got to our home in Uccle nearby, we found a lot of tree damage in our back garden. Huge branches on the ground.

By the way, we arrived here in October and it has been the wettest period in around 130 years.

California dreaming….

Looks like we have four afternoons of sun in the next two weeks but keep your jacket on. Meanwhile 40 miles east it will be clear and100±°F. We say May Gray, June Gloom, No Sky July, that is par for the course around here. If you want to visit San Fransisco come Aug-Oct for the good stuff. Hard to get a tan in Moss Beach this time a year.

16° and wet/cloudy here in Galloway Scotland, I’ve booked a few hours of visible sunlight for August so fingers crossed

I'm in the Northwest. Our forests are drying out earlier in the season, which means wild fire season is longer. They actually have sensors in the forests to measure it in real time. We have had 2 wildfires which made the air almost unbreathable. N95/N100 and better air filters on the HVAC helped.

With heat it is possible to get electrolyte depletion, usually mis-termed as dehydration. Nerve conduction and muscles need chlorine, sodium, and potassium ions to run. Sodium and chlorine are provided by table salt, but potassium is a little harder to find in foods - bananas are good. Electrolyte powder and supplements like pedialyte and Emergen-c, many others are available. It doesn't matter how much water you are drinking without electrolytes. If you lose blood, stomach contents from vomiting, or intestinal liquids from food-borne disease, urination, and of course sweating, you are losing electrolytes, so replenish them!

here are the 2 cities' climates compared

even my city's deepest "winter" is supposed to be hotter than Berlin's hottest summer. totally not the case.

The Hurricane that passed over East Texas made West Texas much cooler the last week!!

After a week of 100 plus temperatures and not cooling off much at night, thought the high 80s/ low 90s felt nice last coupla days :) Today is a bit warmer (96 at the moment). I'm about 40 miles southeast of Eugene, OR for reference. At least no local fires....yet.
