Emphasizing audiophiles is definitely a marketing exercise
It is but I think one needs to step back and take a wider view. Folks here have a particular alignment when if comes to audio, basically performance and value. If you go to a high end audio store in Hong Kong lets say or Japan, you'll see things you've never even heard of at prices that will make your eye twitch. Distinctive design is part of the deal and in those circles, this product could do very well indeed if marketed correctly. Obviously superb performance is also part of the deal and there's no doubt they will get there as well although reviewers who have auditioned the unit say they sound great. The guys developing this know exactly what they are doing.

In fact, for high-end audio products, which are closer to luxury goods, the added value such as family inheritance, reputation, quality control, high-quality materials used, and legendary history become the driving force for giving money.
