Lyngdorf TDAI-1120 questions

Where are you sitting in this room when listening typically? Trying to wrap my head around using a pair of bookshelf speakers to fill a 430 square foot space...
I am sitting 5 m away from speakers/tv....
Room is 8m long and 5 m wide...and my sistem is 5m away from me...from one walnto another wall.

My advice would be to get an in-home demo on the 1120 from your Lyngdorf dealer. It really depends how loud you typically listen and also if you are using a sub.

For music you could comfortably hit 85 dB if that is loud enough. You can use an online calculator (or LLM), the inputs are distance, amp wattage and speaker sensitivity. This will let you play around with different potential amp powers and see how loud you could roughly get.

For auditioning music you could try a position closer to speakers, make an equal triangle.
For room correction you can also try a cheaper Wiim variant.

Hi, I am thinking to get my new Lyngdorf 1120. My curently setup is monitoraudio 100 gold 6, 4 ohms....and I also have XTZ edge 2a-400 on trial.
Now I need also streamer/dac/preamp...and my question is...have 1120 enough power to run my speaker even in high volume or not? My room is 40sqm?
Or should I keep my XTZ and conect him with 1120 via pre-out? or should I return XTZ and use only 1120?
What do you suggest?
The Lyngdorf is an unusual system in that it loves 4 ohms speakers and is rated at 120w with them. In my opinion adding an amp or dac for that matter would break the concept of an all digital amplifier. The amp has no analogue stages and when used with room perfect and the speakers located as per Lyngdorf’s recommendations works brilliantly.

Now the amplifier in a large room at high volumes would at least need a sub woofer IMHO. The 1120 can handle 2 subs and is able to perfectly integrate with them using RP.

The hardest part for getting the best from the system is forgetting everything you have already learnt and follow Lyngdorf guidance’s.

You absolutely need a pair of subs at that distance, and depending on just how loud you want to listen you may find yourself running out of volume on the dial, or a lack of musical headroom - that's a big old space to be filling.

I agree that if the 1120 really only makes sense as an integrated amp. I love mine, but I would sell it if I needed more power to my main speakers (and then likely go in a different direction).

One small correction to what Moonbase wrote above: the 1120 has very flexible sub integration, but Room Perfect does not do it for you. You first have to decide on the high- and low-pass filter configurations, and then run Room Perfect on the whole system.

I have wanted one for several years. Think Room Perfect has huge upside.
Not sure I like the connectivity. My current amp accepts coax, optical, BT, and analog. But no DRC.
If you need more than one analogue input then it's of no use to you - it has one phono input, one analogue, one coax, two optical, and HDMI eARC - plus BT, Airplay 2, Googlecast, and UPnP/DLNA.

And input distances accurately (to the front baffle for L&R speakers, and to the back of subs/the wall behind) plus find out/input any latency your sub/s amp may introduce.

I'd say that you need a 3400 to fill that space at decent volume levels. That's assuming that you definitely want a Lyngdorf amp with Room Perfect.

Lyngdorf TDAI-1120 owners: Is it normal to hear a pop when turning off the Lyngdorf to standby? The pop is not super loud but worrying enough and sounds like someone tapping a fingernail on a microphone.

The Lyngdorf is connected to a pair of Dynaudio Special 40s and an active sub, so if any owners have this pairing and could tell me if you also hear this pop, or is there something wrong with my Lyngdorf?

I initially thought the pop was quite normal but recently one of the tweeters on my Dynaudios died and I started thinking the pops might have damaged it.

Any ideas?

Yes. But this sound is coming from inside the 1120 itself and not from the speakers. There is also a much softer click sound that does come from the speakers (barely audible from inches away from the speakers) that is about a second later. At least, this is how my 1120 behaves.

I do have an active sub with a different brand of main speakers. The speaker brand should not be relevant.

Under the circumstances you describe, this is not possible.

As Mark mentions above, it's a relay clicking inside the 1120 when it goes into/out of standby - is the pop you hear coming through the speakers or the sub? Might be worth checking your cabling for any shorts? What kind of volume have you been using it at because it's usually a short or severe distortion of the signal needed to take a tweeter out.

I've recently changed my speakers from Lyngdorf FR-1 to KEF R3 Meta and use a pair of BK subs and the only sounds I hear is the internal relay on the 1120 a few seconds after putting it into standby, and the auto-off relays on the subs a few minutes later.

Thanks for the replies.

Upon closer inspection, the pops are from my active subwoofer and not the speakers, so sorry for the misdirection earlier. My sub is the BK Electronics XLS200 Mk II, and they pop when the Lyngdorf TDAI-1200 is turned on and turned off, sometimes 2 pops when the amp is turned off.

I did switch to a single RCA connecting the amp to the sub instead of dual RCA (previously I did a dual RCA connection since the sub had L and R inputs), and the pop is slightly softer but still there.

My authorized dealer did email Lyngdorf about it and they suggested removing the HDMI connection to my TV and making sure all components are on the same power strip. But that did not resolve the issue.

Anyways, now that the pops are softer and not from my speakers but my sub which I think are not as sensitive and fragile, I am inclined to just live with it and deem it as "normal".

I've got a pair of BK PL12-300 and no pops, it's not an uncommon phenomenon TBH, and I also connected my TV into the system a few months back via HDMI and no issues - make sure the single RCA from the 1120 is connected to the LFE input on the BK, and that the sub gain setting on the 1120 isn't set too high is about the only advice I can offer; it's just one of those minor annoyances that can happen with an active sub and won't cause any issues/damage long term.

The cause is almost certainly with the sub and the not the Lyngdorf. I agree it's a minor issue. But if you wanted to track it down further, you could try using another signal source (if you have one available) feeding to the sub in place of the Lyngdorf.

I've returned the unit today for assistance. I hope it won't take too long, but I just can't stand looking at it with two LEDs missing!

It's as a smile missing two front teeth. :D
Did they fix the problem? How long did it take? I have the same problem...

Sorry to hear you have this problem. I have no idea if this will help, but is the firmware up to date?

Yes, updated to version 2.5.2.
I wanted to understand the repair times...

It is not firmware related, but a hardware issue. A specific production batch is impacted.

So, you have to contact your dealer to arrange for a repair. Other owners have reported it doesn't take that long (1-2 weeks, not months). Lyngdorf have an excellent reputation when it comes to customer support and service.

Hi,

Since today i am not able to access amplifier's web page on any browser. Amplifier plays music and LungdorfRemote iOs app works and i can play my sources. I tried 5 min power off and did did not help. So, it is only web page interface that is an issue.

Is anyone experiencing this?
