Lyngdorf TDAI-1120 questions

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to figure out which amp I should buy to drive my Focal Theva N3 + 1 subwoofer.
Lyngdorf 1120 or Lyngdorf 2170?

My main scenarios are to listen to a record player and stream music from Spotify.
Sometimes watch movies via a wireless projector.

My room is 38 sq m.

New 1120 = 2100 USD
Used 2170 with Phono and USB module + Bluesound Node 2i = 2200 USD

My main concern is that 1120 would not have enough power.
On the other hand, 2170 is now 10 years old since it was presented.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks

The 2170 is a 10 year old product that has been discontinued for several years now and hasn't had a software update in four years.

Your room is quite large. How far is your actual listening position from the speakers though?

You can use a tool like this to calculate how much power you'll actually need from your amp:

Assuming you have enough power (I used an 1120 sitting 11 ft from my speakers and it could get loud enough to hurt), I'd get the current gen product which is getting bug fixes etc. vs something that has been EOL for years.

Sounds like your turntable and the Lyngdorf aren't properly gain matched. Unfortunately I don't think any of Lyngdorf's phono modules have adjustable gain.
I use streamer mostly, and try CD only a few times. Any gain matched suggestion ?

My bad you said "records" so I assumed you were using a turntable.

How are you connecting your streamer and CD player to your Lyngdorf? It should be digital (e.g. coax) and so gain matching is a non issue.

Looking at your speakers sensitivity this seems weird though. The 2170 shouldn't even break a sweat doing 80dB at that distance. The 1120 also would have been more than enough. Not sure what's up sorry.

This is from the 1120 so not sure if the 2170 is the same? However analogue 1 is the phono input on the 1120 and you can adjust the gain (you can adjust the gain on all inputs on the 1120 to try and match each one closely, so no crazy volume difference when switching inputs)

I wouldn't worry about having to listen at -10, it's a digital amplifier so the volume scaling is different from conventional amps - and if it is anything like the 1120 then you've still got +22 available to you (the 1120 goes to (+) 12 at max volume, plus gain on each input can be adjusted from 0-24 (+))

My last post here was in January 2021.
I still have the same configuration and I do not listen that often - maybe 1-2 times a week when I am not on a business trip and a bit more during the weekend.
So far everything is great.
I use it 70% of the time listening to the flacs over wifi, 25% line in from my laptop when playing games and 5% to the vinyl. It is great I can have 2 separate voicing for music, and another ones for line in or phono. I use the webpanel 99% of the time, I have working and programmable remote (URC7935).
It is great experience so far, no problems with it, no hangs, going for every new update.
Great experience for me all this time.

Hi,

I just installed my new TDAI 1120. I noticed that once I switch off the amp lightly audible thump/pop comes from speakers followed by relays click. All devices are connected to the power extension cord, so they share same ground.

Does anyone experience this pop?

Here is recording - made by smartphone in front of left speaker (Oberon's 5) 1m away from amp. First you can hear pop then relay click from distance.

Lyngdorf pop

Thx,

L

When you say turn off what do you mean. The amp normally goes into standby, is this what you mean? Or are you turning the unit off at the wall?

Turn to stand by - either via remote, app or standby button on amp itself.

I do not have any pops from speaker, they are dead silent when turning on/off no matter the source.

The device itself clicks once with each power on/off - you hear relay clicking inside the amplifier.

Yes.

The recording suggests a very low level pop. If that is the case then no worries. Don’t believe this has anything to do with an earth loop.

Yes it's low level, much quieter than relays pop that comes later.

They relays are quite noisy and thats normal. I wondering if DC leakage in you mains electricity. Might be worthwhile moving it away from any Laptops and Phone chargers.

I have TDAI on the same extension cord with gramophone, wifi mesh satellite, blu-ray player and wd nas. It is a lot, I know, but apart wifi satellite all devices are usually in standby.

Not sure if that’s an issue or not to be honest. Worth trying unplugging some of them and see if that makes a difference.
