Lyngdorf TDAI-1120 questions

Have you noticed your main speakers to be more musical and relaxed when you have high pass filtered them?
Honestly, no.

My experience so far is that the sub improves the sound dramatically (my speakers are on the small side). As reviewers and so on have pointed out it's not only adding bass, but a sense of openness and improved sound quality across the board. The whole system sounds more relaxed and open and detailed.

But, if I am totally honest I don't hear a significant difference specifically when I high pass or don't high pass the front speakers with the sub. It's just whether the sub is on or not. Could be me - I am not a real expert.

I did not like the result of the LFE connection too (subjectively too thick and „muddy“ while playing around with a Powernode).
If I remember correctly, there was an article or video by Rel, that the LFE port has a fixed 120Hz filter.

I am currently happy with Out 1 (Lyngdorf, white port) to Low Level In (Rel, white port). Crossover is at 200Mz (Lyngdorf sets it to 80Hz) and Level is set at 50%. Phase is at 0.
Thank you for this - it's good information. Unfortunately I have to use the REL wireless because of room layout, and there is no option for the Low Level, only High Level and LFE. Unless I get a 15 foot RCA cable and my power drill out :-D

Have you considered just returning the REL and getting a better, cheaper sub with none of this weird "high level input" nonsense?

Not trying to be rude but REL subs seem vastly overpriced and have an insistence on this peculiar setup which I've never heard a credible explanation of (as to why it's "better").

Whether something is worth the money is based largely on attitudes, taste, and how much money one is interested in spending on a hobby. I like the sub, so I bought it. It's beautifully made and sounds good. Might not be "worth the money" to someone else.

I can't imagine buying a Rolex, because to me they cost too much money to mechanically tell time. Same thing, no?

There are cheaper subs. I like what I bought. Their philosophy about high level signal is strange, and a little like some religious war, I'll grant you that :-)

Sure, value is a personal and subjective thing. However, at the point you are having all this trouble just using the REL you might consider swapping it for another sub altogether.

Question for owners - does the master volume sync with AirPlay - I.e. can you control the volume directly from the iOS music app or only attenuate from that?

Issue is certain members of the household have no interest in using a dedicated app…

Yes, you can control volume (and also input source and off/on) with Airplay:

Thanks to @MarkS resolving my lingering doubt, my TDAI-1120 arrived today. It's bigger than I remembered - in my imagination it was half rack width but like 1.5 RU; in real life it's more like a 2/3 scale integrated. Still, it will be a good fit for our needs for a secondary system (music only, driving Technics C700 coaxes and feeding DIY closed box subs with Aurasound NS10-794-4A woofers, the latter likely to be powered by a Powersoft Mezzo 604AD.)

Until the custom furniture in that room is ready I've set it up in our guest room A/V system, driving a pair of NHT C-3 and feeding a pair of Triad Bronze subs (small closed boxes, Peerless XLS10 woofer, plate amps). I should figure out how/if ARC works, because it would be nice to just have guests use the AppleTV remote instead of a Harmony. But I've never used it before. I ran RoomPerfect this evening and it sounds outstanding. I have some experience with RoomPerfect; had an MP60 in the main system for a while. With loudness compensation this would be the perfect set-and-forget baby integrated.

One question for owners - is there a way to change the volume steps when controlling the volume through an AirPlay source? Each button press on my phone is a 6dB jump. I would prefer 3dB steps.

Yay!

If you're streaming from the phone with Apple Music, the on-screen volume slider in the Apple Music app has 1dB increments. I presume other streaming apps have similar controls (but don't use any of them myself).

No matter what the source, the Lyngdorf App on the phone can control volume with a virtual knob in 0.1dB increments:

Yes you can, as MarkS has pointed out, however I would thoroughly suggest that you set a maximum volume level in the audio settings lest an inadvertent swipe on the volume slider within the app by someone suddenly puts the output at full volume!

12db is the max output (which can be much more than that depending on what if any gain you apply to any individual input, that can be up to 24db)
I'd test and see what you consider to be the maximum volume output then cap it at that to avoid any speaker blowing mishaps...

Agreed. I have my max volume at +5 dB.

Hi! On my TDAI-1120 some volume knob LED stop lighting, I guess burned-out or something. The other lights work well and overall no complains. Is this a known issue? Has anyone else experienced anything like that?

Not had that on mine, its used most days for many hours & is over 2 years old .
Many odd things have been fixed by disconnecting the mains power for a count of 10 thereby doing a complete re-boot.
Have you tried that?

I have, it is clearly LED or circuit failure

I know someone on another forum whom it happened to late last year -

After various suggestions from other users/members -

Unsure if his unit was still under warranty?

Oh no!

I'm facing the same issue today - two LEDs have stopped working. I've reached out to the reseller for assistance.
Thanks, yes, exactly like me issue, and the failure occurred after update as well. Not nice, will see what I can do, sending back for repairs may not be an easy task in my case

Have you managed to find a solution?

It may seem like a small issue, but I love to see led lighting up as the volume increase and I found it quite useful !

Nope, almost all LED burned out in my case, this seems to be a frequent problem. I personally have issues sending it back, so probably will have to give up, unless DIY solution comes up. It is pity to see such problems on a device of this price.

Has anyone been able to run apple airplay stream higher than 16/44,1 mode? This seems to be a default resolution for stream uptake regardless of the media quality from Apple Music.
