The MP-40 only supports 12 discrete channels.
I'm not sure that's entirely correct. (I'm literally not sure.)

After much experimentation, I switched a few months ago from stereo subs to a pair of LFE subs, one attached to the LFE out, the other to Aux 1 (now assigned in the UI as LFE 2). Each of these subs is subject to EQ, delay, and gain adjustment.* This arrangement provided smoother, more consistent bass in my room.

Just for ducks, I tried specifing the addition of R & L (stereo) subs in addition to the 2 LFE subs. The software dutifully assigned the R & L subs to Aux 1 & 2 and moved LFE 2 to Aux 3. This would have put the total number of (more or less) independent channels at 15. I then attempted to add R & L rear subs, but the system balked, as R & L speakers must be added in pairs, which would have brought the total to 17 - not allowed. I imagine if I removed LFE 2 from the configuration, I could have added the rear sub pair. Mind you, I didn't try to run this system. In fact I couldn't, as I have neither rear surrounds nor top speakers nor 3 more subs, but the configuration software (and I PRESUME the hardware) seems quite willing to assign 16 distinct outputs. Whether the hardware will drive all of them is a different question, one I can't answer at this time.

* In point of fact, each of my LFE subs has its own gain, delay, and eq setting.

As I posted earlier, the MP-40 will support up to 5 discrete subwoofers, but they are counted towards the total channel count of 12 channels.

Funny, but that's not reflected in UI, which allows the assignment of all 16 signal physical output channels. This may be a bug in the UI software or in the documentation. I agree about the number of subs, but that's a different question.
