You can use the XLR / RCA output joint output to connect a sub on the A8 but there is no bass management.

Okay that tracks. I do have built in crossovers on my RSL 12S. I am deciding between DMP-A8 or this Luxsin X9 at this point.

I know the A10 has it, price is just steep. This 'Play' doesn't have pre out, only sub out. I think LX9 has capability to set HP/LP filters to XLR/RCA outputs separately so I can utilize a subwoofer. I'm not sure if the DMP-A8 is capable of something similar.
Nothing on the DMP spec sheet that I'm aware of.
A reviewer mentioned he managed to jig something up on the A8 but it was a tedious fix not simple and required a bit of tweaking.

Look up on YouTube Andrew Robson dmpa8 review.

Personally this is why the luxin is of interest, they've done quite a bit of R&D from this forum thread and implemented many fixes and suggestions to the software.

The luxin is a serious contender for what you're looking to do.

Personally I'm just not a big fan of the akm 4499 dac chip but again this could just be down to what I've been exposed to vs how good the luxin sounds.

I came to the same conclusion and ordered the X9. It ticks a lot of boxes for a 2.1 preamp which are near impossible to find outside miniDSP.

It's on my contender list, just waiting for a new model mentioned in this thread to compare with.

I don't use headphones so it's a wasted feature for me, everything else aside from the DAC chip used looks really good.

If able post your comments on the unit once you've had time to dial it in :)

@Luxsin just checking have I remembered correctly there is a new unit scheduled for the end of this year?

Am I able to import corrections from REW? Do I use Export Impulse Response from WAV or text?

We are working really hard on the new model development, expecting to have it release in Dec, if everything goes smoothly.
When u mean new model like just a color change or is it something else or changed etc?

Would it be silly to use this as the central part of a living room system connected to a BoXem or Buckeye amp? All of the inputs seem to give some good flexibility - optical from a Wiim for music, HDMI for your TV, RCA for a turntable, and you still have USB for a PC connection and the headphone out if you want to do headphones.

You can find integrated amps that do the same, but not with as much power or for the ~$2k the combo would cost.

Nothing wrong with this at all. In fact, it works great this way, especially if you own two subwoofers, thanks to the stereo subwoofer output feature and decent bass management controls.

Why would it be silly?
It's part of its design to be used in this way.
