looking at the Luxsin forum, there appeared to be 2 people having issues with the pre outs not working entirely and one user had to open the case to plug in some loose unplugged cables but he did get it to work properly after that. Luxsin claimed it might be caused either from shipping or the customs opening to inspect the units? Either way just makes me a little less confident and worried about getting a defective unit. This is a lotta money to invest and I'm just worried something might happen or break randomly. A note on that for Forte Distribution if anybody wants to order one, I found a 10% off coupon instead of the 5% code someone posted earlier.

I plan to buy one from Forte Distribution but I always get worried about buying anything. Bought a Dell monitor and it randomly broke on me a year later. I'm a very cautious worried person lol.

General question... for a 2.1 or 2.2 desktop preamp w/digital input and EQ/bass management, does the Luxsin X9 have any serious competition other than the WiiM Ultra or the miniDSP Flex? This looks really nice...

There's very little in this price range. The WiiM Ultra's bass management is rudimentary, does not allow selection of crossover slope, delay controls only in whole milliseconds, and output is only monaural. The miniDSP has better bass management than X9, with separate per-channel delay control down to the hundredth of a millisecond, whereas X9 does only per-output (so left and right cannot be delayed different amounts). The analog volume control of the X9, however, has its benefits, whereas the other two are only digital volume control. miniDSP offers DIRAC License integration, which is better than WiiM RoomFit by a country mile, but of course costs a bunch of money, unlike WiiM RoomFit, which is free, but still beats having nothing (X9). So you need to look at your priorities and level of precision you seek, all three have different benefits. The WiiM being a full-blown streamer of course.

Thank you - very helpful breakdown. I'm relunctant to pay for what I already have, so a streamer (my PC) and HPA (JDS Atom 2) are not priorities. Leaving the Flex... which I guess is a bargain price compared to the X9.

I have a quality of life improvement I would like to see. A way of integrating headphones to the app when it's not connected to the Unit. I was sitting on the buss thinking this is a perfect time to add all my headphones in the app so it's ready for tonight. But it did not seem to work, i think it tries to ad it in the amp right away, just let us add it and then it transfers to the amp when it's connected.

OK, I see some videos around about it, and how to turn a two-way speaker into a three-way with this and a couple of subs

What they don't say is that you have to have access to full spin anechoic data of the build to do that, and a way to keep measuring anechoically as it goes.
It's not like throwing an x-over at 50-80Hz like with traditional satellite -subs setups, to x-over a bass module (different animal than a sub) at 250-500Hz is not the same, even at 150Hz is difficult.

That, so people are not mis-leaded.

Do you guys, have any idea to why I think this does not sound as good as my stack, that consists of gustard x16, and topping a30pro, I am more of an objectionist so I can't really wrap my head around it. The sound is leaner, with less physical apearance of especially string instruments, and bass slam is nowhere ner as powerfull, its not bad sounding its more detailed and holographic. Could there be something wrong with the unit? It sounds very good with crossfeed and enhanced stereo width. I really always think those things is imagined, but this is as clear as it would be to change my Coffee table in front of me to leta say a chair. It's not subtle. My headphones are, senn hd650, Beyer Dt880, hifiman sundara.

I had never thought of using soundstage adjustment as a mono switch before, but it actually does achieve the same effect.

There's a whole bunch of 'easy' to implement software things (I say 'easy' as not the person who would have to do the coding ) that would open up the X9 to far more audio engineers / mixers / producers / mastering suites (etc) . . . a simple summed mono button, no fancy phase correction or any kind of compensation, just a raw summed mono signal button to reveal things like phase issues. I suspect the code already exists, in the SUB mono functionality.

And from what I can tell the SUB out is limited to ~300kHz and below (?), if this was a full range signal it would have made an idea feed for a mono reference speaker like an Avantone, Auratone (etc), again only really suggesting something that I suspect the unit is already capable of (I'm guessing the sub signal starts out life as a full range signal)

Another mixing feature that is kinda' standard in studios / used all the time, is a DIM button, an onscreen button that momentarily reduces the output level of the speakers / headphones, typically by -10 dB allowing for quick conversations or adjustments, and importantly you can instantly return to exactly the same mixing level you were previously working at.

And seeing as you would be in software, you could make it much better than traditional studio DIM buttons with the amount of attenuation set by the user, and easy-ease-in and easy-ease-out on the attenuation change (etc).
