Sorry, had not heard or seen that. Commonly used term (not in a derogatory way) by many YT audio reviewers. I only asked because seems a new brand name pops up every month.
It has derogatory undertones, just call it hifi because that is what it is.

I really don't understand why anybody would want HDMI ARC and headphone amplifier. I feel that they are somewhat expensive features, but mutually exclusive.

Who puts a dac under the screen AND runs a 5m cable to a passive headphone?

With 42" TVs used as monitors, HDMI ARC on a DAC/amp isn’t that crazy - it’s actually a neat all-in-one solution for a desktop setup.

Some (including me) have several HDMI devices, but no AVR, and so are quickly "starved" for inputs.
My Topping EX5, for instance, is just enough with its 3 inputs (optical, coaxial, USB).
But I don't need any cable extension, sitting <2m from a 65" UHD screen.

That said, there will probably never be a "one size fits all" device. Each user may buy whatever will satisfy his requirements.
Choice is a good thing.

On the contrary. I think there are people that would buy it with the intention of mostly using the HDMI ARC input and mostly using headphones. High end headphones. Say a bedroom setup where you use a console and maybe a google tv or other streamer connected to the TV via HDMI so you use eARC from the TV and you use headphones so as not to upset the rest of the house and bluetooth headphones just aren't good enough for you, too much lag or don't want to keep charging them etc. etc..

If this had streaming, it would be the all-in-one that I've been looking for. I'd also love a second set of balanced outputs, but so few people need that, I don't expect it (one for my speaker amps and one for my electrostatic headphone amp).

If I'm not mistaken, this is mostly just an Eversolo DMP-A8 with the streaming portion taken out. May want to take a look at that streamer, or a DMP-A6 Gen-II.

Too expensive. I'll stick with what I have until a reasonably priced all-in-one comes out. That is where the market is heading, IMO. I would bet that WiiM gets there before Eversolo/Luxsin.

I have some questions about the parametric EQ (also in comparison to RME ADI-2 DAC fs):
- How many EQ bands can be created ?
- Can EQ band be applied to single channel only (L or R) ?
- How are filter implemented, IIR (probably) or FIR ?

- Is there a "mono" switch

Both the Eversolo DMP-A8 and A6 have this function, don't they?

Im confused by this.. Why buy this when Eversolo has the Z8?.. Except for the Trigger in, what else would you need over the Z8?
Well, you know, audiophiles create themselves some "needs" ... So why not this product for someone

Nice

Too bad the "analog" input performance is just average. Obviously, they use an average ADC, probably to allow PEQ and so on.
Other than having the fancy 1080p VU meter and near SOTA DAC performance, this performs worse, and has worse features than the MiniDSP Flex Balanced and Flex Digital in basically every way. Mid 80's ADC SINAD vs -107db ADC on the Flex, Flex comes with Dirac Live and this doesn't, Flex has vast EQ options that are stackable on top of Dirac presets.

It's a no for me, dawg.

- X9 features 10 bands EQ
- The EQ can not be applied to single channel
- IIR
- No "mono" switch

This seems to have very similar specs to the Matrix Element X.

As long as you aren't looking for a built-in streamer and don't need ththis is basically equivalent at 1/3 the price.

Took off a point for value. IMO, costs too much for a DAC of the week. Getting into RME territory but probably has poor product support, customer service etc. Never heard of the brand. Luxsin? Do they make light bulbs?

They are Eversolo—they’re not that small. It’s also not just a DAC of the week depending on what you’re looking for; find me another preamp in this price range with full bass management and STEREO subwoofer outputs.

As noted above, the MiniDSP Flex balanced and Flex Digital both perform these functions and include Dirac for less money and the ADC clocks in at -107 instead of mid 80’s.
