Apologies for the unwarranted snark. Nyquist Sampling Theorem suggests that the sampling rate only needs to be double the frequency to faithfully reproduce a waveform, even a complex one. Half of 48kHz is still above human hearing, the upper range of which reduces with biological aging. So for humans, 48 kHz is enough to reproduce everything that we can hear. It also can be evenly divided into (downsampled) from 96 or 192 kHz, and so higher sampling rates can be downsampled without error down to 48 kHz - meaning that as far as the receiving end (human hearing) 192 kHz sampling will work just fine with a good 48kHz sampling rate DAC, ie: the downsampling is "lossy" in terms of bitrate, but "lossless" in terms of human hearing.

Of course one of my favorite expressions: In theory there is no difference between theory and practice - but in practice there is.

You could get a USB to Toslink adapter and see if you hear a difference?
Minor update, I've hooked it up to a DOUK U2 USB, and to my surprise it supported optical @ 192 kHz @ 24bits.
I haven't done any B2B testing yet, but I can say it does sound excellent.

Hello there!
I've recently purchased a Loxjie A30 and I'm experiencing some issues with it that I can't explain.
When I'm listening to a Vinyl record (with an LD PPA 2 preamp) on my Dali Spektor 2's, the sound is heavily distorted, especially the bass. However, when I switch to the Headphone out and listen to the same track on my headphones, the audio sounds great! When I play the same track via Bluetooth, the sound over the speakers is clean! So all combinations sound good (BT-Speaker, BT-Headphones, Phono-Headphones), except for one (Phono-Speakers). Has anyone experienced anything like this?

This is a weird problem to have. There are people here who are probably better at identifying the problem than me, but in the meantime; what phono-preamp do you have? Is it the same if you power it off between switching between the speaker- and headphone outputs? Does the RCA-input behave this way with other analogue sources?

phono+speakers: You are using the LD PPA trough rca? the preamp must be grounded
phono+headphone: Are you using the preamp out or the loxjie headphone out?
from the bt combinantions, i assume you are not using the preamp, im right?

Can anyone shed a light on the frequency division between main speakers and subwoofer out? If
If your subwoofer has say, a 60-80Hz filter built in, then a 500Hz rolloff in the subwoofer signal from the A30 (If that chart is actually right) isn't going to be a problem anyway. You're only going to see the end result of the much lower pass frequency that is built into the subwoofer. It is pretty unusual for a subwoofer not to have such a filter built in. Even my passive subs have them, and I have never used an active sub that didn't.
Does this mean the main speaker terminals are always receiving the full frequency bandwidth and there is no internal active crossover for the sub? (Just clarifying the convention).

Yes. There is no 500Hz cuttoff or other corresponding filter on the speaker terminals.

This is my biggest gripe with this amp. Does anyone know of a device with analog, digital & Bluetooth inputs that I could plug into this amp, so I don't have to switch sources? I currently use it for my TV and for Bluetooth music listening, and the source selection is annoying because otherwise I could entirely get rid of the remote.

Hi all, I've had this unit for a year now. Quick review: is good. 'Punchy' sounding if that indeed has anything to do with the DAC/AMP. Headphone out is weak if you have anything demanding, though. Don't bother with planars or 300+ impedience headphones (with few exceptions). Just don't. And no, you can't line out to a better amp. You'll need another DAC/AMP. This is almost an Achilles heel for demanding headphones listeners unless they want to source a separate DAC/AMP.

I've read about the USB issues with the device and switched to optical. I wasn't sure whether I should expect a difference, but while I can't say for certain whether it sounds better, in my case, it is much louder. Too loud. I went from a USB port on my PC to its TOSLINK out, and noted immediately that it was much louder at every gain level. I plugged in my most demanding cans (these old, weird AKG K340 hybrid electrostatics) and while I could drive them louder, above mid-upper 40s the distortion was obvious, like really obvious.

Something is boosting the signal...? On my PC, the output is 'Realtec Digital Output.' I looked at its settings in W10 to see if it was boosted, but didn't see anything obvious. Does anyone know what the deal might be?

I'm honestly about to sell the thing. It is good, again, but it falls short in a few areas for my use scenario that have made it officially annoying for my setup.

Edit: if this is happening with other people's setups and they're not noticing, that would immediately make the audio sound better (because louder music sounds better, generally, up to a point of course). It is easy to A/B with this device, and adjusting for volume, I can't personally pick out a major qualitative difference in quality between the USB and optical. I went back and forth over the same piece of music several times. I think it is volume related/placebo; my rule is that if you are straining to hear a difference, there isn't one, subjectively, and you're more liable to psyche yourself out.

Hi everyone

I recently got this Loxje A30 amp, running from my macbook via USB, then hooked up to a pair of KEF LF50 Metas.

I've read a few times in this thread that the A30's built in USB DAC leaves a little to be desired.

I also own a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 v2. Would the DAC in the Focusrite be better than the one build into the Loxje A30?

I found this review of the Scarlett:

I also own an apple usb dongle:

Unfortunately, I don't know enough to interpret the graphs/review of the A30 vs Scarlett DACs to work out which is better. Help!? o_O
