Loxjie A30 Amplifier Review

On measuring Amir, how did you measure the Loxjie? It is a filterless amp right? I know TI for their versions say you need to then use an RC filter in the front of the test gear in order to do so. Is that what you did?
I always use an AES-17, 40 kHz filter from Audio Precision for switching amplifiers. Without it, it will confuse the heck out of the analyzer. I used to mention this but I don't anymore since it is my standard practice.

The model is AUX-0040: https://www.ap.com/analyzers-access...mily-switching-amplifier-measurement-filters/

It has custom inductors and such and provides a very low distortion path with flat to 40 kHz response. I think it cost $1,500 so not cheap!

With reference to sub out, I have now completed my setup with a couple of LS50 and a Dynaudio 250 sub and - guys!- the result is absolutely fantastic. I have set the level and crossover settings on the sub “by ear” at the moment but plan to do proper measurements soon.

Nice, but it is illegal to pair ASR recommended amp with speakers without ASR approval..
:):p

If you like this but want to add PEQ, you could buy an all digital miniDSP processor to put before it.

Realized that but it means I also need a way to turn USB 2.0 to optical or coaxial. Something like a Topping D10. Not bad or too expensive but more boxes and cables. Audio-wise that would still be the smart cheapo choice. But RME is just so cool, and measures slighly better than my Cambridge Audio dacmagic plus. Choices, choices...

How would the Loxjie A30 compare to the Allo Volt+ D, Aiyima A07 and 3E Audio TPA3250? Any major differences? Is there a good, better, best in terms of order?

I'll be powering Q150 and utilizing BT most of the time for a bedroom setup.

A30 has a screen, remote, in-built Bluetooth, tone controls and DAC with solid implementation of the chip amp. Allo Volt+ D and Aiyima A07 are crude looking products that are just amps, so it might depend on your source and aesthetic preferences. 3E Audio TPA3250 seems to be discontinued. Something like the TPA3255 amps I see on Ali look pretty rough too.

A30 is almost certainly the best of the lot unless you just need some clean power and RCA inputs, in which case I might get the Allo. Amir reviewed it. The others I don't know how amp performance will actually be.

One of these days we'll have power amps with 120+ dB of SINAD. One of these days...

Also the one thing I don't get is the... interesting choice of names when it comes to Chi-Fi equipment. We have Topping (pepperoni?), SMSL (reminds me of BDSM...), Gustard (which reminds me of custard desserts, which are lovely) and now Loxjie, which I can't even make an association with!

Thank you. Sound like the A30 is the way to roll for my needs.

Aesthetics do play a minor role with the wife and having a screen and BT with remote seals the deal. Seems like the complete package versus the others.

Are you thinking of the same 3E amp? Both 3250 and 3255 versions are still on sale. I think there's a member sending one of those in for test, and an A07 is apparently on the way too, so we'll find out how they compare soon(ish... depending on how long the queue is...)

I'm still confused about Amir's testing with analog-in. After reading over multiple times his previous and updated analog-in testing, I still don't quite understand.

Could someone explain to me in simpler terms? Basically, when would someone encounter the first scenario, and when the 2nd?

I have a SoundBlaster X AE-5 in my PC. Would this to the A30 analog-in be better than USB? I tried to compare the differences using Amazon Music HD, but could not tell a difference in quality. The only difference I found was when switching between both, the volume was much louder with the AE-5. To match the output, I had to set the AE-5 Windows volume to 62, and the A30 Windows volume to 95.

Say you've got your AE-5 analog output in place of the AP, going into the A30. If I understand it correctly the first test was done with the A30 volume high, and lowering the volume on the AE-5 to get to the desired 5W output level. The second scenario was to set the AE-5 to high volume and turn the A30 volume down to get to the desired level, and got better measured results.

Which makes sense from a gain-staging perspective. I wonder when the noise from the preamp starts to creep in, and why (above a certain vol. setting? only with certain gear?).

Touche. Some ugly ducklings there, and some decent looking models from BRZHiFi... I really like some of the chassis they make for class A with VU meters, but that is getting sidetracked. The measurements will be valuable to readers. Hopefully like that generic DAC, which was actually totally fine for general consumer grade. I feel like the really ugly cases, which look like re-purposed shelving or something, cannot really be hifi, no matter how they measure or sound. Not making an argument, just would not buy that stuff and put it out in my listening room or living room.

I was addressing the bit about the 3E being discontinued rather than the appearance - that side is very much in the eye of the beholder as shown in the beautiful/ugly speaker threads.
Edit: Measurement will indeed be valuable - we could do with some decent budget contenders. It would be interesting to compare with what's in an active speaker too - usually that would require opening them up, but with something like the Edifier 1280t there are the terminals on the back for the other speaker so the measurements can be made directly.

There is also the SMSL SA300 which has the same Infineon Merus class D chips, I wonder how it compares to Loxjie.

If you can level match the analog input then the performance is similar, if not, then the digital input has better performance. If you want to keep it simple, just use a digital input.

Good you mentioned that. I'm in the market for BT ready, optical input compatible desktop dac/amp for my WFH station. Any suggestions for low profile passive speakers for SMSL M300 or Loxjie A30? It's not for music. It's for meetings, so clear dialogue is the priority.
