Low frequency extension

Hi Everyone,

I would like advice please on what you consider to be the sweet spot for a cut off between an active studio monitor and a subwoofer. Given that we are trying to achieve a 20 Hz - 20,000 Hz frequency response most studio monitors that I am aware of have a LFE of around 35Hz at best.
So, my question is: would something like 40Hz/45 Hz or 50Jz (or even higher) be the sweet spot given that a subwoofer will be required anyway.

I'd suggest about 80Hz. An octave above your basic monitor bandwidth and that should keep the distortion down. Even though your monitors may go to 35-40Hz, that does not mean they are clean all the way there. I'd actually check the distortion figures (from an ASR review or similar) to help make the decision - but then I'd use 2 subwoofers...

Generic sweet spot makes no sense, since it really depends on the size/capacity your monitors and room interaction depending on position of said monitors (and subs). Measuring will tell.

Funnily enough the Genelec 8030C is on the top of my list. These active monitors

Go down to 47 Hz
Was highly recommended by Amir
Has the highest subjective rating (including sub) in the speakers tested by ASR
