Yo! I’ll try to keep this short — I am a software / data engineer that has recently headed deep down the rabbit hole of HiFi audio.
I listen primarily to electronic/ bass music. The kind that only sounds right at a venue or extremely dialed and nice speakers - this makes reading reviews or recommendations from others unreliable and I want to learn myself.
While I’m no stranger to learning how to learn tech, I figured I would explain some of my setups before I start shilling out more $ on microphones and audio analyzing equipment to try and get some recs on things to buy, best places to read and learn. I do best with dry textbooks and charts / data which is why I’m here.
I’ve recently built out three systems -
1 - Sauna V1
—
Focal litorra 200 ICW 8s (x2)
Focal littora 1000 sub 10 (1)
Powernode N331 / WiiM amp ultra pro
SAM 300
—
Sauna V2:
—
Focal litorra 1000 icw8s (2)
Focal litorra 1000 sub 10 (2)
cDI DriveCore 4|300
Cambridge Audio DacMagic 2
I got the Cambridge streamer too, but at this point I hate all streaming software with a passion and mostly use tidal with optical toslink from w.e.
The difference between the litorra 1000 and 200s is one of the most eye opening experiences I’ve had thus far. Also, the sauna has an arched cieling, tons of slats/ weird shapes and corners I think add to the sound quality a ton and want to start turning the dials here to see what I can improve.
Cafe/Lounge (similar to my home, 20 foot ceilings with drop tiles / acoustic cloud basically):
V1
Focal Nova 1 (x2)
REL tx7
Basic yamaha amp
V2
KEF LS50 meta (x2)
REL tx7
DAC/AMP - TBD??
Home:
Kef LSX II
SVS Micro 3000
The LSX II are what got me on this journey, and the focals being one of the only 95 Celsius rated speakers available. I find the LS50 meta no better than the LSX, but the after I learn this DAC / room correction and amp stuff.
Thanks for reading if you got this far! I think I wrote this mainly because this forum reminds me of the old Stockover flow days and I’m so tired of AI.
