Looking for a headphone upgrade. Please help.

Headphones like speakers are a very personal choice.
I find the Sennheiser HD650 to be a set of phones that for many people have been the end of the line.
Follow the thread on them at HeadFi and the number of people that have sold theirs for something else
and then later returned, a number of times, speaks volumes to me. I quit looking for something better years ago..
YMMV

I am not quite sure but I always enjoyed more bass with Mr Speakers Mad Dog headphones when compared to HD 600s.

Open headphones can be well balanced but tend to be a bit bass shy, when considering limited budget.

you are 100% right. and out of the 650/6XX/660s/580 - the 600 is the best for sub bass. but ultimately, not a good line for those with musical tastes that emphasis bass and sub bass, hence my original recommendations.

although i did find the fidelio X2 to be an interesting recommendation. i hear those are bass emphatic and are open, but i have not heard them myself. they are on my short list of heapdhones to try yet. excited to see a x3 coming later this fall.

I'm very impressed with the DT770 PRO 250, you might need to experiment with eq to tame the trebble. Very clean/airy/dynamic and low end is just wow. They make my HD6XX sound congested and lean, but I like both.

Try:
Takstar 82 Pro (variable bass control)
Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro (varaible bass control)
Sennheiser HD630VB (variable bass control)
Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (big bass but sharp treble)
Sennheiser HD569
Sony MDR1A
Sennheiser HD25 (original not SP)

DT1170Pro
I think it is over budget for the OP so did not mention it.
Do note that 'better' for one person may be 'worse' to someone else.

do you wear glasses? If you have glasses on, the seal is not tight and you will lose a substantial amount of bass - which would make you always want a bassier headphone. if you don't wear glasses, then yes, you sir just like powerful bass. fostex purplehearts give that kind of bass in spades as well.
Yes I wear glasses :-)

The question when wearing glasses is whether or not the arms are elevated a lot above the skin where the pads meet your skin and how much these stand out.
Simple test... listen to the headphones without glasses and or push them a bit on your head.
When you have lots more bass then you have a seal problem.

The AQ headphones are an acquired taste... the bass bleeds into the mids substantially.
Some love its sound, others hate it. There doesn't seem to be much room between these opinions.

This is exactly the problem I have with the closed Aeons, the bass region is sooo week for me...

There is a closed headphone that has good bass and does not react to a seal breach but it is a very expensive and bulky headphone.

take a HD 600 and apply a bass boost through EQ.

Would the Sonorous VI be ok too ?

didn't like that one.
Not a fan of the brand but the D8000 did sound good to me.
That doesn't mean I think it is the best sounding headphone to me though.
Nothing as personal as a headphone.... well except my toothbrush perhaps.

Thanks for the advices :)

So now, what do you think you gonna do Leshphon ?
It's an interresting thread :-)

I think he should visit some hi-fi shops, take his music along with him and audition some of the headphones within his budget and just above it.

Henlo good ppl,

I see a lot of choices
i have to watch their reviews to give me an idea how they sound like. So far i have watched the review for:
-LCD 2 classics
-sundara
-4XX
-Audioquest nighthawks carbon
-Hd 600
According from this thread, the lcd 2 classics seems like a great option. Only problem would be the price (799usd lmao). I can get it but prob will take me months. Another option would be the 4XX. A lot of ppl seem to really like the bass on it, and it stoods as one of the best bang for buck planar headphones. The sundara, according to Joshua Valour, he said that it is a very clean sounding headphone as opposed to bassy. It can be tuned to be bassy but well, I dont EQ cus i suck at it. The hd600, is, again, EQ it to be bassy. And then, the audioquest nighthawks carbon. Reviewers say that it sounds different. Idk what that means. And it requires some burn in thingy to make it sound less harsh. Ok. Normally, I would pass on that but it is a 700usd headphone yes? Went to amazon to check its price and holy mother of god. It is only 249usd now. Idk what makes its price to go down that low. That is a steal. I guess?

I remembered watching a review for the Phillips Fidellio X2. I remembered it being a very good headphone for 300usd. But then I saw this
"although i did find the fidelio X2 to be an interesting recommendation. i hear those are bass emphatic and are open, but i have not heard them myself. they are on my short list of heapdhones to try yet. excited to see a x3 coming later this fall. " - wadec22
So kinda pass on that one.

My country does not offer a lot of good hi-fi audios. Even if there are, they are overpriced af. All of my audios? I ordered them online. The m50x is like, literally on the otherside from where I live (yes. im asian). Shipping will always take 15 days or more. I can do try and return thingy, but that will very most likely take a lot of time and some money for the shipping costs, some telecom certification from my country that idk wtf is the use for..etc etc.

All in all, I think the He4XX is a good option. Cus it is more on the cheaper side? I can buy the Nighthawks Carbon. But idk if its worth it. Heck even the LCD 2 Classics. I can spend more but only if they sound so exceptionally good. I would require more insights from u good ppl on how these 3 headphones sound :)

Also, I did not expect my thread to get this much replies
Thank you for even giving a damn on visiting my thread :D
