Live Albums

I neglected to mention this album in my earlier post. I didn't know much about this band until I saw them as the opening act for Blue Öyster Cult in August of 1978. I bought this album on vinyl as soon as it was released and still own it today.

I think this is an exceptionally good live album.

The Grateful Dead have released 350 live performances. If I had to choose, it would be Europe 72 box set which has all 22 shows they performed on the 1972 tour. They were in their prime and all the shows are excellent.

One of those shows in Germany was later on (German) TV in the late-night series Rockpalast. Watching it, I fell asleep.:p

Hey guys, I'd like to know how the sound is in Tiny Desk Concerts. Does anyone have an album?

The Who have been mentioned already, but I finally got my hands on an original copy of this:

A good quality recording I think, and OK to play loud!

I'd say that this reaction was high praise, but then I'd be guilty of a bad dad pun! ;)

In all seriousness, I can sometimes very much enjoy being lulled to sleep -- more of a hypnotic state, actually -- by music played at home. The Dead can do it for me (in a good way). Side 2 of Abbey Road on a Sunday evening is one of the best "tranquilizers" (in a good, mood-stabilizing way, not a narcotic way!) on a Sunday evening before a busy week that I've ever known.

FWIW, there's a pretty good commercial release of one of (was there more than one? I... I don't know?!) the German performances (Jahrhundert Halle, Frankfurt) from 1972, "Hundred Year Hall".

I like this album more, than "Bursting Out", because Ian sings all the songs differently than on the studio albums. In addition most of the tracks are rearranged.

Love a lot of the music highlighted here, but kinda surprised this album hasn’t popped up in the discussion. Probably one of my favorite live albums of all time!
