Listening Experiment for Electric Motorcycle Sounds

Living in North America, I've heard the argument that motorcycles being loud makes them safer since other motorists can hear them. I made a point of noticing when I begin to hear a loud motorcycle (Harley Davidson) approaching me from behind on the highway traveling at least 60 mph. The bike was practically at my rear bumper before I noticed any sound. If you ride a motorcycle please know that you can't be heard in this situation.

I drive an electric car. If anyone asks me what I think about it. I simply cite the superior torque and driveability. It's been said "you buy horsepower but drive torque." Maximum torque at zero rpm makes for some exciting driving.

Sounds more like e-bikes....mine has no pedals. There is a pedal kit to try and fool the cops, but it is kinda ridiculous as far as propulsion goes. I'm a geezer at 68 I suppose but living in a 55plus community, now that would make me feel old....I still mountain bike as well as use the e-moto on similar trails now.
E this and E that, way too many different handles to try and keep up with. I never even knew there were E dirt bike versions. LOL

Did you see Harley Davidson on the tank, or just take it for granted?
Because of costs there are many times more import cruiser riders today as genuine HD.
And those "want a be" take the mufflers off their bikes too.

E-bikes have pedals and limited throttle, if any. E-motos just have an electric battery/motor instead of gas/ICE. :)

Stark Varg is probably the best e-moto dirt bike at the moment, but things change rapidly. For regular road/dual sport e-motos I'd look to Zero.

ps Most e-motos don't use transmissions, altho some do.

I think the artificial sounds would be for low speeds for pedestrians. Say 20 mph and less in parking lots and residential streets. Not for motorcycle at highway speeds to be heard by those in cars.

OP did post this particularly:
What are the possible benefits of taking part?
The findings from this study will help us better understand how people respond to different types of engine sounds. This will help us develop acoustic alert sounds for electric motorcycles, which will likely be beneficial for pedestrian safety and to improve the soundscapes of the future.

That's kool, the only time I went dirt riding was when I had too much to drink or otherwise. LOL

I'd want this:
George Jetson's car sound:
Could you really see the Jetsons type cars in the inner cities like Chicago or New York?
On the weekends they'd be drunk, running into each other, and falling out of the sky like Pigeon Schitt. ROTFLMAO

Ah, the good ol' whiskey throttle ? I prefer living away from pavement generally.

Funny how we all seem to enjoy our adrenaline rushes from different sources.
Street riding, specially in the city, requires constant vigilance and gives a rush all it's own. LOL

Yeah in the city almost got creamed by a car turning in front of me despite a fairly loud bike and headlight....they didn't even signal. Much safer off road :)

There is no one forcing that choice currently.
Recently finalized regulations will start to force that choice beginning in 2028, and tightening the noose over the 5 years after that. Actually, I don't expect the new rules to survive.

Until that tree jumps out in front of you. LOL

Sooner or later people will either learn to stand up or lose all their freedoms to the dictators.

They just lie in wait. We have lots of those on our trails so good to be aware. It's bigfoot ya gotta watch out for maybe the bears and cats.
