Planning on pulling the trigger on a pair of Lintons as a birthday present to myself. My buckeye amp is no longer working and my backup is a Sony AVR so I guess I'm going to need an upgrade to power them.

I've sort of narrowed it down to a few models that might be options. I can get these from Amazon with no interest 5 month financing (which I need).

Yamaha R-N1000a
Yamaha A-S801bl
Denon PMA-900HNE

If anyone has experience or opinions on these models pushing something comparable to the Lintons I'd be happy to hear it

* I haven't ever really been into "streaming" much but who knows.
* Vast majority of my music is on my PC (Flac)

I have them with a Denon DRA-900H. I cranked them up today 1st time to cover neighbour’s renovation noise. Even with amp in Eco mode (20-25W power restriction from what I’ve read) they thundered away without audible distortion and floor-shaking bass. Should be fine with with PMA900. My Denon is slightly more treble-heavy in Eco than my previous Pioneer AVR. Don’t know why. Sounds just like Pioneer in Normal mode though without Eco’s power restriction.

What's wrong with the Buckeye amp? If it's a Hypex-based, check the internal ribbon cables because they may come loose over time.

Super Linton with Yamaha AS2200 works great for me. But Denon should be a good match as well :)

As the OP has the Buckeye and as the Buckey chap posts here a lot, why not see if it can be sorted first? I'm not a full blown eco-warrior I assure you, but anything to save more landfill if at all possible and the Buckeye amps use replaceable modules I think...

Why not drop @Buckeye Amps a PM?

So Sony designed their AVR to play movies, but not music? If it were my house, I'd try it before buying another piece of gear. Of course, we would know more if you share the model.

I may check that. I thought it was a blown fuse but after getting replacements no luck. I purchased it in Buckeyes early days here and it's not under warranty so I figured I was just out of luck. Thx

This is to be my probable end game for music... I would think the amps I mentioned would be steps up from the Sony but ? Sony model # is STR-DN1080. Thx

It's what you really want/nead. Yamaha R-N 1000A is rather capable integrated solution. When it comes to Denon preferably little older AVR than mesured good with Audiseey if you ask me or newer with Dirac. If you prefer cable (I stream locally) A-S 801 will be good with it's own DAC. YPAO ain't great so get UMIK-1 anyway if you already don't have one and good luck. Check power supply unit on Hypex, shouldn't be too expensive or difficult to replace.

The Lintons just are not hard to drive. 90db sensitivity. At 6 ohm, even the budget Sony is rated at 100 watts. Like I said, I would absolutely try them before buying something else. The Yamaha models have a tiny bit more power, the Denon a bit less - none of them enough to make any major difference. I would see if it's possible and how much it costs to repair your Buckeye with Dylan before buying any of them.

Unless there's something wrong with your Sony, or if you want more power, or more/different features (like room correction?) there's probably no need to change or "upgrade".

Your speakers are rated for 200W but twice the power is only 3dB louder...

Speakers ALWAYS make a difference (better or worse) but (ignoring tone controls, EQ, room correction, or surround up-mixing, etc.) most electronics is already better than human hearing unless you over drive an amplifier (or something) into clipping/distortion. Or sometimes you can get audible analog noise (hum, hiss or whine) in the background.

Go for 801, streaming comes good and cheap with Wiim device, including Room Correction.

FYI - went with Yamaha R-n800 for the upgraded DAC and so I wouldn't need additional purchases for streaming. Amplification should be on par (at the least) with the as801.

Will let you guys know my thoughts after the Lintons arrive and I get some listening done.

I’m sure it will be fine ;) the Lintons / Super Lintons and most loudspeakers wharfedale did recently are easy to drive. Some people even use tube amps with good results.
