You don't think you are reading too much into this?
But I will try to answer your questions anyway...
why would you compare a $40,000 usd streamer to whatever the hell the Chinese or whoever else is in this market?
I guess I did. Don't you find the $2000 Eversolo DMP-A8 High-end streamer to be comparable, why so?
why do you have to insert stuff like how you can either buy this $40k unit or buy a unit like the Wiim Ultra $329 and somehow you will likely spend $40k over the next 17yrs trying to 'keep up'?
I don't think I said anything about spending $40k in the next 17 years.
I would never buy this expensive Linn streamer as I can't afford it, but I would gladly be the owner if I could. I have bought my Linn Akurate DSM for way less than MRP, and it's the best HiFi-related thing I have ever bought as it's so inviting to use. It's great to have everything under the same unified user interface and ease of use, in the same manner as I think is the reason so many people like Roon. And the best of all is that Linn keeps their streamers up to date with streaming providers and radio platforms, and it has just worked flawlessly for all these years and I expect it to do so for many years to come.
I think pulling this "fortress Europe' type talk shows what your mentality is. Its kind of... xenophobic?
Just because I don't trust the quality of electronic products made in China, doesn't mean I have anything against Chinese people. You can call me "old fashion" if you want as I believe in buying locally, prefer high-quality gear, and like the idea of extended warranties and serviceable products. I almost love that as much as I love my half-Thai/Chinese girlfriend for the last 22 years.
in a thread about £45 - £87k speakers people still have to attack the Chinese? this is where you are at?
No, I have not attacked anyone, and certainly not any Chinese people. That would be awful. I'm sorry, but it seems you have a strange and lively fantasy.
If you can afford this stuff why does it bother you what the 'little people' do?
I can certainly not afford neither the streamer, the power amps, or those speakers. I have visited that HiFi store for the last 30 years or so and the shop owner fully well knows I can't afford that stuff, but he gladly let me listen to the stuff anyway as he's a music enthusiast. It's a great shop with 4 demo rooms.
'Little people'? I have never seen Keith in real life but...
Just kidding!
further to this... streaming is a new technology? how can you even begin to discuss how 'support' will be 17yrs in the future???
Do you think streaming is a new technology?
Linn doesn't think so. They decided to stop making CD players already back in 2007 when they released their first streamers. That makes them long-time experts in this field, and yes, I expect the same fabulous support from them for the next 17 years as long as they stay afloat. Most other brands stop the support for the older units when a new model comes out, but Linn does understand that a network player is a platform that constantly evolving, and things like that cost money as they must have employees who keep on working on it for years to come. But you don't have to buy their most expensive flagship streamer to get the same support.
truth be told many of you guys will be dead by then? we are buying stuff to enjoy now, would my kids want to inherit a 17 y.o streamer??
That is what I would call short-sighted. I hope your streamer doesn't break tomorrow. And I very much hope both you and me will live longer than that, and hopefully even longer than a Linn streamer.
I think your children 17 years from now will be happy if they inherit a Linn streamer, as it will likely keep up with the future streaming platforms thanks to all their software updates.
amazing mentality here.. I can barely understand it. Its so kind of on the nose, its intriguing.
Maybe you have missed it, but my answer was to a guy who spreads negativity around him almost every day on this forum, and he delivers his negativity in "one-liner" packages which is the most classical form of internet trolling.
to counterpoint - you can always invest in the Belgium streamer company, 432, and see how that company treats you.
Nah, I'm more into higher-quality stuff than that. I value
value.

(I never said that everything "made in Europe" is good.)
I hope you have a nice day and appreciate my answering all of your questions.
