Hi, I am a rank novice to this forum and also to all matters audiophile. My question for the good members of the forum is.

I am thinking of purchasing the Linn Speakers and hoping that my current amp will drive them without potentially damaging either component.

My current Amp is Cambridge CXA61.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @MJM 0407! Welcome to ASR.

I would highly recommend against purchasing the Majik 140, if you want a remotely faithful rendition of your tracks:

Way more accurate floorstanders can be bought for less money.

It should be fine.

The speakers are 4-Ohms and the amplifier is rated to drive 4-Ohm speakers. (If the amp is rated for 8-Ohms*, you can potentially get excess current and overheat the amp, and then unpredictable and bad things can happen.)

Or if the amplifier has more power than the speakers can handle and you turn it up too loud, you can burn-out the speakers. I found the specs for the amp (90W at 4-Ohms) but I didn't find the wattage rating for the speakers.

Generally, I don't worry too much about amplifiers as long as they have adequate power and whatever features you need. The "sound quality" of most amps is better than human hearing.

* Impedance (and resistance, both Ohms) is "the resistance to current flow". With lower impedance you get more current and more wattage, given the same voltage.
