Lii Audio F15 v 18

Thank you Benzxc. Actually, this is also a possibility, to use 12 inch and a sub ?

but the field coils have this very tacky looking phase plug that turns red (you can see in in my photo) when the field coil's PSU is turned on)

Could you please explain more to me as a beginner ? Thank you
When I had the F12 from Lii Song, I had them in the Caintuck Baffles along with the W15 as bass support. It was a wonderful full range system. To my ears, the F12 had a smoother overall sound than the F15, but less impact. I also ended up selling the F12s, but I have other pairs of 12 inch drivers in my stable and I find that 12 inch drivers are my preferred driver size.

The field coil comment relates to the aesthetics and looks of the field coil drivers that Lii Audio produces. If you take a look at my photo or in their online catalog, you will see that the phase plug (the thing in middle of the driver) is LED red. In my opinion, it does not look very good. But it sounds great, which is the more important factor to me.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Vandemann.

Sometimes I think that I should forget about the
standard box speakers and focus on the open baffles
and not the way around, but never mind, there is not
so much money at stake for a Wiim and an E3F7.
I suppose that when you say the s model,
that it is this model you are talking about, costing :

What do you use to fine tune the filters between the sub and the F15 S ?

Do you have a photo and details of your setup ?

The F15 on an OB can be spectacular. They are very picky about how you place them and what kind of amp you pair them with. I run a small 3watt SET Tube amp for the F15s and a Schiit Vidar for a pair of stereo 12 inch DIY subs. Crossover is a MiniDSP. They sound incredible. OB when done right makes you feel like your in the room with the musicians like no box speaker is capable of.

Thank you Seveer. I will definitely try the OB this fall. I heard it once a few years ago and yes, incredible. But as you say, although they can be easy to set up, not so easy to get a good sound but that is part of the fun, to search for that sweet spot.

You DIY subs, rather small but perhaps that does not matter ? How did you build them ?

You won't be disappointed. I don't think my subs are small, they measure 16.5 inches deep, 16 inches high, and 16 inches wide. 1 inch front baffle, 3/4 on the sides and one brace. Drivers are actually not the same, 1 is a Dayton Audio RSS315HFA-8, the other is Celestion 12 inch long throw sub woofer taken from a Celestion SL6000 sub-woofer system. Normally a mismatch would be seen as bad idea, but in my case the drivers complement each other. One does 20hz - 50hz really well, while while the other handles the upper sub frequencies. I handle the mismatch with a minidsp. Likely would not work without a MINIDSP. Your baffle shape and size will impact how low the F15 will play. If I had the $$ I would build a baffle with the F15 and W15.
