Lii Audio 21 Inch Woofer for Bass Compensation of Open Baffle or Cabinet | W-21

I like the specs of the Lii Audio Fast 15 for open baffles but noticed it's a lightweight compared to the original F-15. The new Fast 15 weighs only 9.9 lbs ( ? ) vs 24 lbs for the original F-15. If true that should help with shipping costs.

It's interesting that Lii Audio values the sound of Alnico magnets from yesteryear in offering the Music 15 but at $1638 a pair that's getting pricey. That's about one fifth the price of a decent pair of Zenith 39CZ alnico's. It looks like Lii Audio may be going for a higher end market with their field coil and alnico drivers.

12kg (Lii song site) is very off for a F15, 12kg is what my dayton Ultimax 12 weighs in net shipping weight and that's because it's got a big honkin magnet on the back
4.8KG is correct, 12kg would be not far off the F-21 at 18kg, and it couldn't have changed due to the basket that much

Yes, they have the FC15 and FC10. I'm gonna ask lii audio for FC10 pricing one of these days
They also have the Music 10 and Crystal 6 if one wants to try alnico drivers though there are also other P610 derivatives with alnico magnets from china as well

You'r right the listed weight of the F-15 is not accurate although it was heavy enough to require bracing on 3/4" MDF. If you look at the motor cover of the Fast 15 it appears much smaller compared to the F-15 but that's no indication of magnet size. I believe they both use ceramics. The high Qts of the Fast 15 means it's more suitable for open baffles. It will however be bass shy. They all are and require bass support. You can use a box sub but then you'll miss out on OB bass which Linkwitz states is more accurate. That has been my experience. I much prefer thin baffles vs wide baffles. I tried the F-15's in the wide baffles and they were a disaster. Lost too much of that seductive back wave for my tastes. The driver should be mounted at ear level when seated.
 
This was my F-15 trial in wide baffles - too wide with the driver too low.

Yes the motor is smaller but F15 is not really a big motor either
They use ceramics
Fast 15 absolutely is expressively designed around OB use
I'm rolling with sealed subs anyway not like they are slow
OB bass would be too insane to tackle with my preference for bass
 
Lii Audio bills their Music 15 as a tribute to the big alnico drivers of the 1950's and early 60's. Before the days of transistors when flea watt tube amps ruled the day this type of wide bander was commonly found in consoles. I'd love to have a pair of the new Music 15 but they sell for $1638. I wonder how they compare with these "free" 49CZ alnico's which I salvaged from a Zenith console.

The original one is wrong because it's from lii song - who makes clones of lii audio drivers when the founder of lii song was still working at lii audio

But what is strange is that Lii audio has it listed wrong as well, it should be 1800cm2.
