There are many types. Some also have a vacuum function, and some have rotating heads. Mine is a really early one, it has a removable pad which does not rotate, and a tank and heater at the bottom. The problem is that it does not scrub, so getting rid of oil and stains require multiple passes, and you need to chuck the pad in the laundry after every clean.

If I were to buy one again, I would buy a steam mop with rotating heads and a vacuum function. Those usually have dirty and clean water tanks and a base with a drying function. You can get cordless or corded steam mops. The advantage of cordless is convenience, just pick it up and go. The disadvantage is less power and slower to heat up. Also, steam mops can not be used with carpets, it is a strict hard floor cleaner. Example: Tineco S9.

I really missed having one of those when I shattered a jar of jam on my kitchen floor. How do you clean it up? I had to scoop up all the jam and broken glass, then mop the floor with a conventional mop until all traces of jam were gone. Then I had to wait until the floor dried, then go at it with my vacuum cleaner to remove any remaining glass. Waiting for the floor to dry was really annoying. If I had a vacuuming steam mop, all i would have to do is scoop up the jam and big shards of glass, then go over it once.

It’s as much a part of my daily routine as brushing my teeth and gives me a great start to the day.

Whenever I see pictures of your kitchen, this is what comes to mind

Dirty kitchens are one of my pet peeves. I hate dirty kitchens, I can't even begin to prepare food until i've cleaned everything until it's spotless.

I think it's fair to say that you pay a lot more attention to your home theater than to cleaning your kitchen.

I don't have a home theatre! I don't even own a TV!

As for money invested ... I would say that I have spent as much on my kitchen as I have with my hi-fi. And I use my kitchen far more often, which is why it gets cleaned every day. The main rig gets listened to a few times a week. What I actually listen to every day are my Bluetooth speakers, which are very humble!
