Hello everyone, hope you're all doing well. Well I have a dilemma....

For the past 26 years, I've been listening to my music through my Yamaha RX-V493 receiver. It continues to serve me well, but this receiver is 27 years old! It's a dinosaur and will likely give out at some point. I've read that Yamaha used to make their receivers with excellent headphone amp circuitry. I wouldn't be surprised if it's true because the sound...to my ears...is still very good.

But I'll be getting an RME ADI-2 Pro FS Black Edition soon. So the real question is, how do you suppose it would stack up against that particular DAC/AMP combo, or any modern HP amp for that matter, in terms of sound quality via the headphone output? Based on what you guys know about vintage HT Yamaha receivers, In your opinion do you...

A)Think it would be wise to eliminate my Yamaha RX-V493 from my audio stack because the ADI-2 Pro is going to run circles around it and make it its bitch?

Or...

B)You feel the Yamaha is still worth keeping in the audio chain, and I'd be better off driving the sound from the ADI-2 to the Yamaha via XLR to RCA connection(this receiver has no digital input whatsoever) and using the receiver as my headphone amp?

Right now I'm using a pair of BeyerDynamics DT-880s 250ohm that I've had for over a decade. The receiver drives them with no problem. But I'll be upgrading to a new pair of headphones soon so I'd genuinely like to get your opinions on this matter.

Plug your cans into the ADI-2 Pro FS. I've no hesitation on that question. If the RX-V493 is redundant at that point with no further skills you can use then you can present it with an engraved gold (plated) watch, hand shake, and a sincere message of thanks for 27 years faithful service.
