Hi. I'm looking for a 12" subwoofer for audio monitoring. The only 2 I've seen below 1000€ are the KRK S12.4 and the Kali WS-12 v2. Which was has the better performance? I know the Kali is rated at 1000W but I'm going to need that much power.

I have no experience of the KRK S12 but I have owned the S10 and thought it was good value for money and easy to set up with my KRK monitor, sounded great in my room but i then upgraded to the setup in my sig and the Dynaudio subs were quite an upgrade.

From all online reports I doubt there’s much between them but purely on my previous experience I’d choose the KRK

What Dynaudio sub did you buy?

Started off with one Dynaudio 18S in my setup but managed to find another that was sold as non-working so bought it for £125 and it turned out to be a break/fault in the cable at the kettle plug end , bought another cable for £8 and it works fine :p

Bargain of my year ;)

I saw that the Dynaudio 9S was in my price range but also a review that states that the lowest frequency is not 22 Hz but 38 Hz. I want to reach 25 Hz.

I've used the Kali and I think it is one of the best values for its price. I haven't used the KRK but going by specs the Kali has a bigger cabinet with more than twice the power 220w vs 500w. The Kali should play louder if drivers are similar. They both have a -10db frequency of 23hz so that should be comparable. The specs state the Kali is 3db louder. In the end they are probably close sowhichever one you can get a better deal.

If you don't need the last few dB of headroom maybe get the KRK.

I love Kali's sound but have had so many manufacturing faults / DOA units / electronics failures it's kinda ridiculous. I'd say I've probably bought about 14 Kali speakers and at least 5 have issues.

Specifically for the WS-12, one of the five units I've owned died totally just after the warranty expired, and it had a fairly easy life until then. Another one which I still use, a v1, occasionally emits loud crackle after the soft start. It also gets passed to the HPF output; power cycling clears it. Another WS12 I have sometimes hisses. That said, the only v2 WS12 I have has been rock solid, so far. So that's 3 out 5 with problems... They are meaty things for the money though, so there is that. And maybe V2 is better..?

I would also like to know the better option between 2 10" subs and 1 12" sub for studio monitoring? How much stereo audio is there below 80 Hz?

Depends on what style/genre of music you listen to, my preference is for electronic music 95% of the time and I’m currently listening to a track that has very deep sub bass that I can feel rather than hear.
