I was just doing some intense bass sweeps with my two Neumann KH 750s when one of them suddenly cut out and started flashing red on the power indicator.

According to the manual, it's "red" if if the protection mechanism kicks in, but doesn't specify if it's flashing or not and specially claims "The POWER ON LED lights up red in time with low-frequency input signals" as a cause of the "red" indicator. Is the flashing red a sign of thermal protection and is it likely fine after letting it sit to cool down?

Any help here? My 18" active PA subwoofer's amp has kicked the bucket before because of overheating issues, and that one is a lot bigger than this!

I'm surprised Neumann support didn't answer that question (cos I suppose you did contact them).

Why would they answer on a weekend?

After you let it cool down, did the KH750 go back to normal operation? Or is it still stuck red?

Totally normal as if it never happened

Glad that the protection circuitry worked well to protect the speaker.

I have not yet encountered red flash/light on my KH310 yet, probably because I don’t push them that hard.

Anyways, from my KH310 manual:
* flash red: protection system active, output reduced
* light up red: electronics temp too high, output reduced by 20dB
(Not sure if the behaviour is the same for KH750.)
