KEF Uni-Q Driver in Open Baffle?

I've been building successful large open baffle arrays for years now, and I'm contemplating using the 5.25" Uni-Q coaxial drivers in the KEF Q1 Meta as midrange/tweeters. Google Gemini AI says that that driver is "suitable" in an open baffle if crossed over to a proper open baffle woofer at about 200Hz or so. I'd be using Satori WO24TX-4 9.5" woofers above and below the Uni-Q in D'Appolito configuration, along with a pair of Dayton Audio RSS315HF 12" woofers below 80 Hz. I have al the drivers, including two KEF Q1 Meta speakers as donors. Does anyone have any experience using Uni-Q drivers in open baffle?

I don’t have any direct experience, but you probably know this already - the UNIQ’s for midrange and those designed for full range have different compliances. For example the LS50 is a full range driver as is the Q1, plus they are used in bass reflex designs and thus can operate with large excursions at the lower frequencies without too much distortion - so are good, on the face of it for open baffle and lowish frequencies. Other UNiQ are just strictly mid-range drivers and are not intended to operate below 300-400Hz typically and operate in sealed enclosures.

Have fun

Haven't done it myself, but certainly looks like a fun project. Crossed over between 200-400Hz at 24dB/octave should be fine. Let us know how it works out.
