Kef R5 meta all in one amp (EU)

Alright your speakers have a sensitivity rating of [email protected]/1m with minimum impedance of 3.3 Ohm at 150Hz so not at a frequency you can easily hand over to a subwoofer unless you want to cross extremely high using stereo subs.

So you'd need at least a 2 ohm stable amp with decent headroom to get you to 75dBC SPL at your desired listening distance with peaks into 95dB (20dB headroom)

Assuming you're listening at 9ft, that will be roughly 60 Watts into 4 Ohm

My recommend is the Wiim Ultra if you don't use Apple Music paired with a stereo power amp that can do 100Watts into 4 Ohm, no sweat and is stable to 2 Ohms. Get this combo set from Audiophonics - https://www.audiophonics.fr/en/prod...nics-wire-rca-30cm-trigger-cable-p-19806.html

And invest in a subwoofer. This would do - Arendal 1961 1S
If wiim ultra can already do 200 watts @ 4 ohm into 2 channels why an extra amp?

I meant Wiim for streamer but what AMP do you recommend that can handle 200 watt rms per channel or 250 to leave headroom.
WiiM Amp Ultra has 200W per channel.

Oh didn't know there was an Amp Ultra. I might have to watch the review

Originally there was the Wiim Ultra which is a Streamer/DAC/Preamp. It had no amplifier built in.

Now Wiim has come out with the Wiim Amp Ultra which is like the original Ultra but with an amplifier added. This new Amp version loses the Phono Input, Line Output, Optical Output, Coaxial Output, and Headphone output that were present on the original Ultra.

Ok I see I was confusing wiim ultra and wiim amp ultra, sorry.

Yeah my recommend was the Wiim Ultra and a dedicated power amp. That is what the combo set is.

I like this option as it is budget friendly I'm just worried about

"This amplifier does not have a decoupling capacitor, so it lets the DC component of the signal through. Make sure your source has no DC component present at the output. The DC protection of the module switches on at 12VDC which is very permissive."

WiiM ultra won't fry anything or ruin speakers will it? Or a power spike or something.
I guess this is the best option its just that warning in the website that worries me.

Now I'm doubting r5 meta since with the savings from audiophono package I could shoot for r7 meta
However with r5 meta I could shoot for the subwoofer now

Now you're just overthinking it lol

I don't really trust AI but
The WiiM Ultra does not have dedicated DC output protection on its RCA outputs. This means it's possible for the device to output a DC voltage (DC offset) along with the audio signal, which could potentially damage sensitive amplifiers or speakers. Users should be aware of this potential issue and take necessary precautions, such as ensuring their connected amplifier has its own DC protection or using a device with blocking capacitors on the RCA inputs.

And the AUDIOPHONICS AP300-S250NC Power Amplifier Ncore NC252MP
Also doesn't have rca dc input protection.

Is it just me or can this be a problem?

Was also looking at EVERSOLO DMP-A6 GEN 2 Streamer although it doesn't have a sub out ;< but it does seem superior to wiim ultra

If I used EVERSOLO DMP-A6 GEN 2 Streamer with the AUDIOPHONICS AP300-S250NC Power Amplifier Ncore NC252MP could I still connect the eversolo to an active subwoofer?
Using xlr to AP300 and rca outputs to active subwoofer hence using xlr+rca simultaneously?
To use with Arendal 1961 1S
No conclusion here:

Or would a EVERSOLO PLAY Streamer be best given what I want to achieve....

This post is primarily intended to raise awareness among people using DIY or esoteric creations as a source.

Nothing to be afraid of with a mass market product like the Wiim.

After much consideration I will go with the wiim ultra (instead of eversolo dmp-A6 gen2) due to the lack of sub out on eversolo.

So:

wiim ultra > AUDIOPHONICS AP300-S250NC Power Amplifier Ncore NC252MP > kef r5 meta + Arendal 1961 1S (x1 for now)

Thanks everyone and ASR for the tons of reading content available.

nice. get a umik-1 in your back pocket for room speaker placement iteration shenanigans

I was actually considering going with a
beyerdynamic MM 1 (2023) (with calibration file) + Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen + Digital Sound 8930B (for spl calibration) so I could play around with REW, also from Raw-CAT videos he uses a focusrite with a non usb mic so he can do impulse response (time/phase alignment) he loopbacks the output into the 2nd input and to the dsp, so if I ever get a DSP in the future I wouldn't need another mic to use HOLMImpulse.

And it would still work with REW as does UMIK, yes I lose the usb ease of use but I guess it's a more complete setup although more expensive.

Maybe I'm thinking wrong but I might one day put a DSP in car aswell so I'm thinking about that scenario now rather than later if I purchased a umik.
