The Q Concerto Meta is in the updated Q series, but maybe not worth it if the updates don't mean anything to you. You probably would want to hear them before you decide.

I just checked the KEF website and didn't find the previous generation Q series listed. If you are interested the Q750 and find them in stock somewhere, you may want to jump on it before stock dries up. The new Q7 Meta looks interesting, but they are $500 more per pair according to KEF's website.

EDIT: Never mind. I misinterpreted what you were asking.

If you think the Q7 Meta will work well in your room, it probably is a better value than the Q Concerto Meta if you intend on using KEF's stands, which are a bit expensive. You could save some money with less expensive stands, which would make the Q Concerto Meta more compelling for someone who wants bookshelf speakers.

I thought that @juliangst ment the Concerto + the kef 'Q stands' vs the Q7. ? :)
I'm not aware of a plain Q7 if not in the previous series. The new series has a "Q7 Meta", but it is $500 more per pair than the Q Concerto Meta according to KEF's website. Maybe juliangst will chime in and let us know what specifically was meant by Q7.

Never mind, I think I just figured it out. juliangst probably was comparing the combined price of the Q Concerto Meta and KEF's stands against the price of the Q7 Meta. There the price difference is about $150.

Yes, that's what I ment too. And she lives in Germany, where the price difference is €100.

Yes, I meant the Q Concerto which are 1200€ with their matching stands which cost 300€. At 1500€ they are just 100€ less expensive than the Q7 Meta towers.
I think you really need the matching stands to match the aesthetic of the Q Concerto but at that price the Q7 might make more sense.

From all KEF lineups the Q Concerto+ SQ1 are closest in price compared to the next bigger tower in that specific line.

Q Concerto+ SQ1 are 94% the price of the Q7 Meta tower,
R3 Meta+ S3 stands are only 77% of the R5 Meta tower and
Reference 1 Meta+ S-RF1 stands are only 76% of the Reference 3 Meta tower.

Thanks for all that math! I think you are correct. The Concertos are probably overpriced compared to the other speakers in the Q line. I bet KEF is counting on people who love the idea of a 3 way stand mount speaker, and also people who are in love with the R3 Meta but can’t afford it.

I was really hoping for a "smaller" center channel in terms of height :/

I wonder if the new Q Series will have the same bass shelving like the R Series does.
I don't think so. For example:

Q Concerto Meta:
Frequency range (-6dB)
40 Hz - 20 kHz
Typical in-room bass response (-6dB)
36 Hz
Frequency response (±3dB)
48 Hz - 20 kHz

R3 meta:
FREQUENCY RANGE (-6dB)
38 Hz - 50 kHz
TYPICAL IN-ROOM BASS RESPONSE (-6dB)
30 Hz
FREQUENCY RESPONSE (±3dB)
58Hz - 28kHz

I don't think you can tell bass shelving from looking at the manufacturer specs on paper, because it's more about the curve.
Erin measured the R3 Meta at 77Hz (-3dB) and 37Hz (-10dB). Spinorama.org has the -6dB point at 58Hz.

Of course you're right. But as far you can base/imagine an 'expected curve' on the KEF Meta r and q series specs you could think the q's are at least less shelved down: Every time the -3 dB point is (much) lower than that of the most comparable R model while at the same time the -6 dB point is higher.
I'm not a technician or expert but I still don't think so.:)
Edit: But I don't know and don't want to be priggish so please forgive me:cool:
