KEF Q Meta is Coming

The expansion of this new Q series, with the 1 and 3, make the whole KEF lineup a bit strange. Sure, speakers such as the Blade is an all-in product (halo, would be called in certain places), but with the new Q offers, the LS line feels a bit out of place. Or the Q are a bit out of place, depending on how you look at it.

Personally I am very happy about the new Q series as it seems it is a great upgrade compared to its predecessor (being for example 3-way vs. 2-5 way) and even has one advantage compared to the existing R series, namely the smaller mid and tweeter Uni-Q, and since I am currently looking for a fun floorstander I will probably buy soon the new Q11 Meta.

Hi All,

Nice to see your thoughts on the Q Series Meta.

The series has been officially announced now, and more information can be found on the KEF website.

Here is now some official text and video:

The Answer is always in the Q
The new Q Series with MAT™ always has the right sound solution for you
Equipped with innovative technology from our premium ranges, the Q Series now features Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT™) and the 12th generation Uni-Q driver array. This ensures exceptional sound quality, making it an ideal choice for both stereo and home theatre setups.
The comprehensive line-up caters for any room size, budget or application with models including floorstanding, bookshelf, centre channels and on-wall HiFi speakers. With the versatility to seamlessly mix and match, the Q Series can adapt to evolving audio needs. Colour-matched grilles are included with the speakers.

Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT™)
The crucial advancement in the Q Series is the integration of Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT™). MAT is a highly complex maze-like structure that absorbs 99% of the unwanted noise from the rear of the driver, eliminating the resulting distortion and providing a purer, more natural sound.

Uni-Q®
A 12th generation Uni-Q® driver array with MAT™ is found in all eight models of the Q Series. Uni-Q® acts as a single point source to disperse sound more evenly through the room, allowing everybody, wherever they are in the room, to enjoy the same natural, detailed sound for an immersive entertainment experience.

Speaker Performance

3-way speaker

The evolved Q Series has been upgraded from a 2.5-way to a 3-way system design which ensures precise separation of high, mid, and low frequencies. This updated configuration significantly improves detail and clarity, bringing your music and movies to life.

Deep and clean bass
The Q Series features a hybrid bass driver design that provides stiffness to achieve a piston-like movement for better bass punch and speed. Combined with a port modelled using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), this results in precise and agile bass management even at high output levels.

Refined crossover
A critical component of the Q series is the refined crossover, which ensures seamless integration of all speaker parts. More than 1,000 specific measurements are taken for each speaker model, allowing precise signal path and optimisation for best possible performance.

Shadow flare
Derived from the flagship models, Shadow Flare is a carefully profiled transition that extends the waveguide effect of Uni-Q. This design reduces unwanted cabinet diffraction, allowing the treble to escape naturally without reaching the cabinet edges. The result is vastly improved fine detail reproduction.

Hope there will also a white paper and some measurements out soon.

Yes. There will be a white paper. It's really extensive and it's being finalised now, ready for publishing. Once it's out, I'm sure it'll be linked on this thread.
If this measures decently or perform well sonically, Is KEF not worried that this might take a bulk of sales off the R series? or even the LS series.

Perhaps the LS will fully transition to just actives.

I´m calling @AdamG to merge both threads.

It will be interesting to compare measurements with the R series, because the price is a quite lower.
Thank you @Vacceo for the call out and helping us keep our library of threads well organized and consolidated. Duplicate Threads merged here.

Besides going to true three-ways for the towers (and the Concerto bookshelf), another big change is that they have done away with the passive radiators and gone to rear ports. The front woofers are now all actually woofers.

looks like they fill a gap in teir setup. The Cencerto will be a good value for the money. Or buy a used Kef R3 nonmeta for the same money if you can find.
But very odd in my opinion that they call them the succesor/ follower from the Concerto 1969 in their marketing video.
A big retro box would be a nicer follower for the name Concerto. But who cares.
They look nice, interested how much or less worse they compare to the R3 meta

('Me': Or take (a bulk) of sales off other brands:cool:) Not meaning to take your post not seriously; The quality might come (much) closer to the more expensive series.

I agree with keeping this one thread - but how about changing the title to "KEF Q Meta is Coming," ie, remove the word Concerto so that readers will know the thread is about the entire new lineup?

@AdamG
Happy to oblige. Done. ;)

But very odd in my opinion that they call them the succesor/ follower from the Concerto 1969 in their marketing video.
Their explanation is:

Born in the heart of a musical revolution, the original 1969 Concerto was KEF’s first 3-way bookshelf speaker, making professional high-end audio accessible by bringing it into people’s homes. Now, that spirit is reborn with the Q Concerto Meta. With its 3-way design and innovative Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT™), the Q Concerto Meta delivers pristine audio quality, making every note feel like a history-making moment.

Hi Opal, Rõlnnbacke,

Don't worry, the new Q Meta doesn't sound as good as R Meta. Besides, the R Series has a more robust construction, nicer finishes and higher maximum output.
The aim with Q series is to bring the best sound to as many people as we can. Our opinion on "the best sound" is a 3-way speaker. This is why it was a priority to bring this architecture to the Q Meta.
