KEF Q Meta is Coming

Looks ok, and better yet for the price.

Maybe ‘for their price’ they perform well, but you have to remember that the new KEF Q Concerto Meta cost almost as much as the KEF R3 Meta cost six months ago :)
KEF raised the prices of the R Meta models to make room for the new Q Meta :) Those who bought the R3 Meta six months ago can be happy :) Today he will buy a ‘mere’ KEF Q Concerto Meta instead.

I am curious to see the first comparison tests, how much worse the new KEF Q Concerto Meta is.

See Erin's video... he compare them almost directly ;)

What speaker would you choose with a weaker amplifier:

Q Concerto Meta: 1.200€

R3 used: 1.000€

R3 Meta used: 1.280€

Not in the US they didn’t. R3 Meta has always been $2200 here, unless there was maybe a sale. A sale ending is not the same thing as the prices being raised.

Can’t speak for other countries.

The review is now on YouTube, Erin seems really liking it:

that step down on-axis would bug me, but otherwise it looks good. Odd that multitone distortion climbs the way it does around 2-500hz, maybe the motor structure of the woofer lacks a shorting ring?

Erin in the review says the tilt down on axis combined with very goood directivity index results in an exceptionally good in-room response for the price, which is what you're looking for. I wouldn't bother much about that multitone distortion, you will never hear it. The compression test results are also very good. You have a slightly less perfect R3 meta but with more extended base and easier highs. This is already a bargain, now imagine that for 300 bucks more you have a Q7 tower with even better bass extension and distorsion, can't wait it gets measured

The Q Concerto is somewhat less sensitive. Without eq, I find the R3 really good and the R3 meta just that bit more accurate, neutral, uncouloured that I don't have any real urge to change anything about the sound (with sub, not even allways on). Voices, (classical/acoustical) music are really 'believable', 'just there'. And used, it can't even be two years old. So I would choose the R3 meta. I never heard the Q Concerto, but I guess it's really good, after watched Erin's review..
So I'm guessing a Denon X1700H would be underpowered right?
I wouldn't know - can it handle 4 ohm well, how loud do you listen (and what other speakers are you possibly going to connect simultanuosly, assuming that that matters)? I find the R3 (/metas) perfectly fine at moderate levels but that's maybe also because I'm somewhat grown up at 59. And possibly you have housemates/neighbours/ that would be happy when you have an amp that you consider underpowered. ;)

On-axis response both from Erin's videos:

My personal opinion didn't change from seeing these measurements: Either cheap Q3(50) (Meta) or more expensive R-series. When a speaker passes $1000 bucks I also start to factor in build quality, and longevity. With regards to the R-series, and if considering the cost of the KEF stands, it's a short jump to R5 Meta. (They really made the up-sell path easy :D )

..Q6 Meta is also good bargain/option, (not that it really matters) distortion figures are very good + closed box (no potential port issues) + less bass decay (fast bass). sub is a must prob. but still...

These measurements make sense, I got the Q6 Meta as a center channel. and I found it really like muffled out the box, and it had a severely descending midrange and treble response in room for me. I think it has the same step down on axis for the midrange / Tweeter like the Q concerto, since they have the exact same driver combo.

The step down on Axis makes sense in an untreated room for music solely maybe. because my other Q speakers will get the flattening out and bump up in the treble in a bare room, but with room treatment the OG Q speakers have a perfect sloping down response, from taming the reflections.

While the Q6 meta will be too dark, so its something to consider.

You've got 5-15dB extra in the bass between 20-100hz, that much extra bass even makes Genelecs sound dark, I think if you EQ the bass to be flat (maybe as much as +6 at 20hz) you will find it sounds neutral.

You can ignore below like 100HZ, I was still tuning in the subwoofer. there was a massive peak at 30hz and too much of a rise The point was mostly just the 2khz and beyond region

IMO it's really smart having a sloped on axis + wide constant directivity = sloped in-room response in multiple seats of a home theater. Makes the Concerto + center great for a front trio.
