KEF LSX II

I wonder how well this works. LSX has a 70w + a 30w = 100w per speaker. Is that USB-C cable really going to carry 100w from one to the other?
They are using a proprietary cable, but USB-C cables can go up to 240W these days.

They are great for small office/studio rooms.
They look nice and cute, but is sound not too harsh considering lack of bass? My hd800S had this problem, everything was fatiguing when there was lack of bass.

I got the these in black

Lack of bass is going to be a common issue on pretty much any bookshelf speaker. The more compact they are, the worse it will be.

Hardly something you can blame this speakers for in particular.

They don’t sound a bit harsh, we have multiple pairs here, if you want louder and deeper than buy bigger speakers.
They are extremely convenient to use as well.

There is lack of bass and there is non existant bass like on this. I think people only buy these cause they look cute.

Then add a sub which is straightforward with the KEF app.
With loudspeakers you still have to pay for spl’s and extension.

yea it's not loud but it's not harsh imho it's rather a bit "soft" compared to the razor sharpness of some high end speakers , but it does not not lack precision .
Loud enough in the kitchen for me .

So loud and/or deep you don't get that :) but its not always needed for secondary use or in a small student room it's a very good package . It's a "mini high end" on the small scale :) they do everything but not that much of it , its just like a scale model :D

In my living room i have the LS60 and dual subs , that goes louder .

60 Hz for such a small speaker? I think it is a fairly reasonable number.

For my small office and given they are on my desk < two feet away, then the bass is decent. Sound quality wise, yeah the OG LS50 sound better to me (very different rooms though), but yeah I can see the "harsh" comment, they are just not super refined IMO.

I don't understand why a manufacturer - like KEF - would offer a pair of floor-bound active speakers/monitors (e.g. LSX-IIs), which can solely be controlled via a mobile phone. How hard could it have been for KEF to provide user-controls thru a (OS-agnostic) desktop application?

I had bought a pair as Christmas present and few months later, I realized she was not making use of them, at her workstation and inquired.
TL&DR: She loved their sound and aesthetics but hated its 'smart' features. Of course, she was right!

I unplugged them about a month ago.. but -- Hey! -- they still retain their aesthetics!
These KEF LSX-IIs have become my 2nd least-useful door-stops that I've ever bought!

I really should put them up for sale, but I am currently p*ssed-off at them!

No not really but it has some adjustable parameters, it would be great if KEF added a full EQ suite.
Keith

Yes that’s how I turn them on and off and select input, have you put batteries in?

LOL, that must have been it! Have you tried using the remote as a "controller"... besides on/off/select?
I dare you... even with fresh batteries.
Five dollar 'remote' devalues a product selling for ~$1000... even if not named KEF: imo.
Don't you think?;)

I use an external streamer with digitital output to both my Kef speakers , once the setup is done i rarely use the app , the remote can do volume nicely .

And if you use Spotify you use the Spotify app not Kef’s own anyway? I guess this is the main use case , setup with the Kef app and then use Spotify .

But I do think they should provide at least a web interface in the speakers and better EQ options.

Same here. Connected with my laptop over USB.

I cannot avoid a bit o destructive criticism on Kef LSX II… (I had them last year at home, returned quickly).

For the price one can have (as my choice was), a pair of Genelec 8030s and a WiiM pro plus: you have a DAC, a remote and active monitors that sound way more accurate and musical than Kefs.

Many brands overprice this “all in one” products, since they sound quite bad without the inter-speaker cable (it exist a delay or time inaccuracy, someone has measured ITD? I find it quite audible), and have to be plugged to mains the number of cables is roughly the same as usual. And the WiiM app is way better than Kefs, including a PEQ and a ton of stations.
