KEF KC92 and Kube MIE subwoofers

I would l always keep the two KC62. If you want more power and extension, just add one or two larger ones. Subs don't have to be identical. But do get a mic, and get some dsp room eq system. That will transform the sound. If you are reluctant to get very technical, the DSpeaker X2 is the easiest option.

Yes not at the same time of course :) it con do 11hz at some puny level and 110dB at at much higher frequency ? Have someone done proper measurements ( Erin ? ) maybe it cannbe deduced from there ?

I read somewhere that 11 Hz, -3 dB (Room EQ) was mentioned in their white paper as a room reinforced measurement, not anechoic. Even my old Sunfire TS ii can achieve a measurable response down there like that, so I don't doubt what they claim in controlled conditions. But yeah, those not read in like those here, could easily lump the peak output to go along with that level of extension.

Those three DSP modes that KEF invented (Wall, Midroom, Corner), are those of any use if you're going the miniDSP route anyway?

If combined with a minidsp 2x4 HD or similar, I would set the sub dsp to mid room. That is what I did, for most extended low frequency response. MSO plus a midi dsp will then sort out the room response irregularities.

Tough pricing.
I'm not willing to invest that much money, but that's on me. Only curious if the cone is that stiff, as they dismissed the grille.

There's a used KC92 available for 1400€. At that price are there any similar subs in terms of looks?

Depens on what you're looking for, it's subjective. Also what you want to pair it with. In my case, it is nicely matching the white color of my R6 Meta, but in a naturally lit environment you will quickly spot the difference when compared to the warmer white color of my Ref 3 Metas.
I'm not sure that the KEF warranty is transferrable to someone else though, so better check it upfront (even though it was originally purchased in November 2024 so the first year is almost gone), especially since it contains electronic components.

Thank you very much.

I currently have XTZ 12.17 edge in black but will be moving soon and my girlfriend does not like the look of it at all.

So I'm looking for a more aesthetically pleasing alternative

An alternative for these dual driver KEF subs would be the stylish dual driver Bowers and Wilkins subs. They look very elegant, particularly in a modern interior. One of my three subs is the earlier PV1d and am happy with it in the most visibly obvious location. The other two are a good looking but relatively larger Kef Kube8b and an ugly SVS SB2000 classic, hidden behind one of my Quad electrostats.

Do you know how they compare to the Kefs?

One of them was tested by a contributor here in a test with a number of different subs. It scored rather well. I am afraid I cannot find the test, but I am sure somebody with a better memory can. The dual driver B&W subs come in various sizes, but I assume their quality will be similar, with the larger ones with more output and extension, of course. remember, subwoofer sound quality is largely a mattter of room integration.

The Kube MIE 15” is on sale for $999 right now, which I consider a fair price.

Problem is, it is just too big and heavy for my 60 yo body to safely unpack and move around. Plus, it is butt-ugly.

If they knocked $500 off the KC-92, I’d probably go for it and finally get rid of my mid-aught era, near 4 ft high SVS bazooka. I can’t safely lift and move that one around anymore, either. Still works, though - but a little too slow and boomy for music.

I have KEF R7’s, and so far have been doing ok with music sans sub, and 20 yo old SVS bazooka for movies and music in Atmos. But need to get a new sub that integrates better for 2 ch music soon.

Slow and boomy?

How do you integrate the subwoofer in your setup?

With my LS60’s, my SVS PC2000 pro sounds fabulous, integration via the LS60 is super easy and sounds great.

One of my three subs is a Kef Kube 8b and I think it is actually rather elegant in our modernist interior compared to many subs. The previous version of the Kube 10b scores rather well in the Sweetchaos survey. Inevitably a smaller sub with the performancce of a larger one will be more expensive. The KEF Kube series is a cheaper series that still performs well, but in a larger format. There is no free lunch. If you are really interested in something smaller, I would recommend two smaller ones. They will give you much of the output of one big sub, but with a smoother response and over a wider listening area. Add dsp room eq and you have really good sound quality.

Quick question on KC92 crossover setting: i find conflicting information on what its crossover setting should be when set up with an av receiver. The manual states it should be set to LFE while other sources and users have it set to the highest setting. Does setting the crossover knob to LFE actually mean no crossover is active in the subwoofer?

The manual is correct. That's what the LFE setting is for.

Correct, it should mean that the internal crossover (LPF, really) in the subwoofer is bypassed which is what you want if the AV receiver is handling crossover duty. You don't normally want another LPF behind the crossover.

For multisub setups passive subwoofers might also be a good option because you dont need to run power everywhere and don't need long RCAs that could pick up noise.
The B&W SW10, SW12 and SW15 look like decent options.
Exactly why I run a pair of DIY 4 Ohm 12" ported (tuned to 29 HZ) subs with 1+KW RMS a channel. I don't have to also run a power cord.

We actually have a house . Living room with the subs and LS60 is aprox 5.5m*3m 17 sqm ( 2.4 meters in heigth ), but with large openings to other areas of the house which is fairly open and some walls and roof construction is a bit lossy I sit 2.7 meters from the speakers who are 2.4 meters apart .
This is medium sized living room in sweden :) probably a shoe closet in the US ?
I'm in a single house in the US, my living room is about 1/2 yours and is immediately open (no interior wall at all except for around the toilet/linen room) to the dining room/kitchen.
The whole home (including the [out door patio, deck, shower labyrinth room and utility room {washer/dryer & water heater room}]) is 102.19 square meters.
In my previous home: the living room was approximately 1/2 the measurement of the whole of this home.
So, it varies. But these are stand alone homes, on their own piece of land.
But, I am living on the water (with no one else within 1/2 a kilometer):

It ain't pretty but showing off has never been what I do best, anyway.
