KEF Blade Two Meta Review

It's only the paint probably.
Did it fall stressing the two halves of the cabinet?
I was thinking that too. (Or glue) I’ve seen that before.

No idea…opened the first box - flawless, delicate drivers and all, opened the second and saw this. Appear something fell on top of it’s box because there’s another mark as well as crushing to the top of the box in the area of the mark.

That's really unfortunate.
Hope this will be resolved.

Don't these come with pallets as all usual big-ish speakers?
Some come in fly-boxes as well, it's not a big expense, proaudio use them all the time.

Ouch, definitely seems like the box was dropped or something was dropped on it. Who did you purchase it from?

Thankfully they were insured. Seller started the freight claim. Just want them picked up and the money refunded at this point.

Dealer demo from a seller on that auction site.

Sorry to hear. Hate when what seemed like a good deal falls through.

That’s a real bummer.

At least it sounds like you were dealing with a dealer? If so they should take care of it.

If it was a good deal, I would keep it and repair it. Dismantle the speaker and send the carcass to an automotive repair shop. Or if you have the skills, you can DIY. Paint it any colour you like, or you can apply vinyl wrap. In fact I would jump at the opportunity to buy a speaker that had cosmetic defects that was being sold for cheap!

I’ve mentioned this before, but…

I lusted over way-too-expensive MBL speakers for years. And I finally lucked out when I came upon an incredibly low price. Some MBL 121 stand mounted Omnis had been shipped by a dealer to a customer and damaged on route. The crazy metal grill were a write-off (but I wouldn’t have used them anyway), and there were some nicks here and there with a small bit of crushing on one corner.

But this was only if you looked closely and knew they were there. Otherwise, from any rational distance, they looked brand new and performed as brand new. So I got speakers that cost $18,000 new for $3,000. Never saw a price like it before or since. Owned them for about 10 years. Easy to resell.

Do they come in wooden crates? They should. Two consecutive serial numbers should also be expected... at that price.

Awesome! Beautiful room. Love the color.
Did you paint the walls to match the KEF drivers?
:)

And how dare you disgrace those wonderfully accurate loudspeakers, forcing those antiquated vinyl records through those poor drivers! :p

(I kid. Love the records. I’m of the view that a nicely record collection always makes a room look cooler.)

Thank you! Actually the room, of horsehair plaster walls and ceiling with copious amounts of insulation behind it all and plush carpeting on a thick pad, was rehabbed and painted in Benjamin Moore "Jeweled Peach" about 18 months before even a notion of owning Blade 2 Meta entered my mind. I had Reference 1 Meta at the time.

As for the records, I listen to most all of them at least once a year. I like the interactive process of getting the record out, dust it off, set the stylus down and pore over the liner notes while it plays. Can't do that with streaming. Many would argue, but there are a number of good records that sound better than the digital version when using the right cartridge and associated gear.

I do spend a fair amount of time streaming Qobuz and my own library of about 670 CD's and a number of bought higher-res downloads all stored on my Bluesound Vault 2. That feeds via SPDIF co-ax into the Luxman DA-06 dac and on out to the Luxman C-900U pre-map via balanced cables.

Yeah, talked to them today and they’re saying all of the right things, said they CAN order singles from KEF and that they’ll be shipping me a new one.
Fingers crossed it all works out.

For those that own or have heard the Blade 2’s, what amplification was used?

I’m planning to get these but haven’t sorted out the electronics yet. I’ve only heard them with McIntosh at this point.

Parasound Jc1 with Mine , no limits of amplification , but you could get and hypex ncx500 and be absolutely good

I have bridged Benchmark AHB2 but I've tried them with many other amps. I don't think they are picky if the amps are quiet, powerful and flat!
Do you think the AHB2 is better (or more to your preference) than the ATI you reviewed?

Ended up having to return them - didn’t want to wait a minimum of 90 days for a replacement from KEF. Apparently they no longer carry that color combo in the U.S. market.

The search continues…listened to a pair of MoFi SourcePoint V10 today…left VERY impressed.
