Hello,

I am a first time poster here :) I have been mostly reading some reviews and looking at rankings, but I recently got interested in the software side of audio.

I have also been a happy owner of Kanto YU6s for 4+ years. The speakers have served me well, however, I recently had the chance to listen to some more premium setups, and it seems that there is something missing with the performance of my YU6s - they just don't sound as good (as they maybe should), even though they measure similar to some higher-end systems and receive high praise here on ASR.

For additional context:
- I don't use any dac/amp/etc. mostly just bluetooth straight to the YU6s (casual, I know)
- I also have Kanto SUB8, which I originally bought for aesthetics. I know it is not the most capable sub, but it is adequate for my apartment setup (for now).

Back to the YU6s and the main topic...

In my *beginner* opinion the speakers sound pretty great with electronic music, but music with multiple instruments, busier sections, and more dynamics (e.g., rock and metal) sounds slightly unclear and fatiguing. Highs and lows sound solid, but there is something wrong with the mids that sticks out to me. Initially, I thought that this is just what I get with the entry-level price and that I should maybe upgrade to higher-end speakers if I want the "wow-effect". However, now I have started to wonder if the YU6s might still have more to give with EQ adjustment and/or room correction?

My questions:
  1. What would be the simplest way to add EQ to the speakers? I have been looking at WiiM Pro Plus, which would keep the setup simple, while providing useful capabilities (e.g., better streaming quality, universal EQ regardless of input) for both the current setup as well as any upgrades down the road. Are there any competing recommendations? I would like to have a minimalistic setup while avoiding adding EQ to the source, as I often use phone (IOS) or projector as the source and neither supports EQ software.
  2. Is room adjustment worth it? I have been researching the topic for a bit, but I am not completely sure if it really is a real needle mover - or if room adjustment is even feasible without expensive gear. Also, how can I combine EQ with room adjustment? Could you suggest any guide, or testing hardware/software to accomplish this (if you even think it would be worth it)?
  3. While I mentioned that the subwoofer is not the focus right know, I'd like to know if WiiM Pro Plus or similar equipment would let me create proper lowpass+highpass filter setup. Currently, I only have manual highpass filter knob on the sub, but I am not sure if I have been able to optimize the crossover manually - I think finer control and additional low-pass filter would let me get the most out of both the speakers and the sub.

I know these are pretty loaded questions, but I figured I'd first try to get some general guidance before spending too much time researching aimlessly. Any help is appreciated (previous thread suggestions, etc.)

Thanks!
