I've just moved in to a new place and I've got a room available to make a small home studio / general gaming and dev setup ! The room is quite small and squarish though (about 3m x 3m). I'm looking to buy new monitoring speakers but I'd like some honest opinion from this forum.
In the past I've listened and worked with Yamaha HS8 in 2 different setups and I really quite liked them. They were my first pair and I think the frequency balance was a bit off in the bass because of poor room treatment more than the speakers themselves..
I've also tried to work in a friend's home studio where they have Neumann KH 120 A and I really hated those. But then again I'm too much of a noob to distinguish poor speakers vs poor room acoustics..
I wanted to stay in the Yamaha family and pick HS5's (because of room size and budget) but I saw they have this nasty 1k bump not really comparable to the HS8 ? In a similar price range I've heard a lot of great stuff about the Kali LP-6 V2, would like you're opinion on those.
Also since I'm using those speakers for dual purpose (mixing and music listening) is a sub necessary ? I really want to put more efforts into my room's accoustic cause I feel this was ruining my experience in the previous setups I've had, any tips or recommendations are welcome !
