John Atkinson Retires

Stereophile have announced that John Atkinson is retiring today.

John was the editor and technical editor across 40 years.

Before that he was a writer and then editor at HiFi News & Record Review.

In particular. he was one of the people who tried to reconcile subjective and objective assessments of hifi.

He's one of my audio industry heroes, I will miss him very much, and wish him a long and happy retirement.

I always made it a point to read whatever was published under his byline at Streophile. I will miss his contributions, particularly his comments on measurements of audio gear he tested.

Now lets be clear here...it was my superior intellect and pointed probing that got John to confess his retirement after I highlighted that Stereophile can't have two technical editors (as shown below).

So credit where credit is due!!!

Congrats to @John Atkinson on retirement. I will miss his measurements in Stereophile. He walked a tightrope in my opinion, and if you looked at his data, read carefully, and read between the lines, his reports were always useful.

My congratulations to JA on a long, distinguished career. I was a subscriber at the time he took over Stereophile, even though I was just a high school kid interested in hifi. Now I’m old and gray. Hard to believe that JA at Stereophile was a constant during that entire span.

I enjoyed your stewardship of Stereophile and especially your loudspeaker measurements and reviews over the past many decades. I would have missed this though as I parted ways with Stereophile some years ago after you left the helm.
