Is there anybody here who use it with Firefox? I can't stand the clicks from optical output when I rewind Youtube videos.
Any guesses how to mitigate this issue?

I'm glad that more DACs with PEQ are coming on the market, even if the particular device isn't available from European dealers.
Hello, I would like to know how everyone adjusts PEQ? Should we adjust while listening or use some other software algorithm to automatically adjust?

With the Element 3, you can set up for parameters for some correction in the device menu (with microscopic font :-D):
- Bass Frequency and bass level.
- Treble Frequency and treble level.

For the v4, this vid shows it all starting at minute 6:00 and (even more so) 9:30 and later.

I have near all the time always used my ears to set the PEQ/EQ to my personal preferences. I used a pink noise generator with a EQ a few times and it sounded absolutely terrible and I decided that was not for me. People here at ASR use RoomEQwizard free calibration software and a ~$79 calibrated USB microphone and they say it is very good. My ears are not the usual sort of EQ/PEQ settings that are common to the majority, I know that, many other people have seen the obvious excessive equalization settings that I find very pleasing and so I think I am a outlier but maybe more people are too. We really don't know I guess. Try the use your ears method and see what you think and if you feel like spending a few dollars on a calibrated USB microphone and getting the 100% free software and setting up your speakers and room you may find it very good as have other people here.

I'm hoping they make a DAC-only version of this with coax input and balanced outputs. Basically like my Schiit Modius but with the additional EQ. I'd love to have EQ in my DAC but unfortunately it's currently limited to either portable units or very expensive desktop ones.
Hello, may I ask if you prefer PEQ or pre-set EQ?

A very nice PCB and sub PCB for the volume assembly.

Digital volume control using DSP?
Or special IC - stepping attenuator - in the analogue path?
No potentiometer?

Two relays in the output path?
Do they also protect against DC voltage at the output (DC protection)?

.. It's about using a cheap, outlet hogging, wall wart on a $500.00 piece of gear. I guess I'm expecting a little bit more for my hard-earned money.
...

Every $2K+ laptop computer I have ever had does not have an internal power supply, and the PC makers probably have a reason.

for me i wish this unit had line out option rather than pre out.
Since it stores setup of HPA and RCA differently, you can just keep the RCA out at a level of your choice and never change it.

I just got an Element IV as a replacement for an Element III. 2 years (!!) after the warranty for the Element III had expired, I was offerend the choice between a free Element III or an Element IV at very significant discount (which of course I jumped on). Needless to say - outstanding customer dedication by the JDS team.

Installed it and spend a delightful evening listening to music and playing around with Core. I was converted from a PEQ skeptic to an enthusiastic advocate. I toned down the recommended PEQ settings many others have pioneered (thanks to the community! there is so much great stuff we can easily reuse these days!), and the DT1990pro sounds more rounded (see below). The UI is examplary, and it's great to be able to configure all other DAC settings (LED and knob behavior and many others) with the Core application as well. If ever needed, even the firmware can be updated with the Core app.

The knob behavior is super smooth, I always *loved* the big knob for quick volume (as well as toggle between HPA/RCA out) adjustment (note I have never ventured into "high gain" territory), and now it's even smoother.

Here's the PEQ preset I stole from the DT1990pro review, which I modified some to my personal preference:

If there's ever been an easier way to apply PEQ, I haven't seen it. This device is going to cover all my DAC+HPA needs and delight me for a long time!

PS: I am having waaaaay too much fun listening to this combo right now. I was invited to a wine tasting that included Colgin, and I canceled and am here listening to this setup! :-)

fantastic customer support. Wish they had a distributor in EU

Hello I have an EQ Profile with 15 to 16 band, can I add it to Element or is only 10 band eq? Thanks

Got an Element 4 some time ago and it's become the family go-to device for getting them (albeit slowly) into audio. Love this thing and how simple Core is to operate for older folks who are fresh into the game. Real excited for whatever JDS are cooking next.

Yes, I wonder if the wonderful people @ JDS having anything new planned .. :)
@jseaber any hints? :D

Seems just at first look like JDS' solution is better than Schiit's Forkbeard for EQ control (more complex adjustments possible).... can you control it via iPhone or is it strictly PC-based?

iPhone, most likely no: iOS, in its current form, doesn't expose USB/HID communications to iOS app. There are a few non-trivial workarounds, but this is an Apple restriction (USB bi-directional communication is a potential "backdoor" security threat); not much JDS Labs can do about it. Anything else—Android, Linux, MacOS—is possible.
