JBL STX835

Hi,

I wonder if anyone here have any experience from the JBL STX835? i want to buy a pair. I now have a pair of both JBL SR4733A and SRX725, plus 4x VRX918S that i find amazing for the money i paid for it, but the STX835 is more compact in its design (smaller) and would be a better fit for me. I can't find a pair to test nearby this is why i ask if someone have tested them.

For what? For home stereo? Or for music at weddings and funeral dinners in small cafes?

Do you mean the older passive ones, or the newer active models being JBL STX835P?

This is a review and detailed measurements of the JBL SRX835P "PA/DJ" powered speaker. It is on kind loan from a member and costs US $1,699.

Note: our company, Madrona Digital is a dealer for Harman and hence JBL line. So feel free to read whatever bias you feel necessary in my subjective commentary.

This is a monster of a speaker and it is still sitting on top of the Klippel NFS measurement system:

I like their sense of humor:

"Easy portability" and 85 pounds don't go in the same sentence in my book! Still, it has nice set of handles on each side...

For me its the STX835 Passive i am looking for, to use with some of my Dynamic Precision power amps, The SRX835p is totally different.

I (and we) prefer large format drivers for home use. With a large enough horn (waveguide) and a low enough crossover.

i am with you, feed this older JBL PA speakers with a good source and lots of clean power then they will treat you very well and your ears, forget about the looks, just close your eyes and enjoy. i use now both the 2447J and 2452h together with 4x JBL ST450 ( built my own JBL MD1 replica but with ST450 instead of ST400) compared with my Array 1400 and 4367 i still love the old SR4733a and the SRX725

Standard PA fullrange speaker. Usually suffers from cabinet & HF resonances, as well as HF reflections from the metal grille. Do not expect much from such a design except high output capability.
