tbf its in the name.... Junk But Loud

also do you need to spend 1/4 of the retail price on dirac?

i think amir is a bit nitpicky here, which he should be... we strive for better and that sinad does not scream greatness or even adequacy but i think as a living room bing bang boom box it should be ok... ie. same as everyone else in the class and a fair bit above the likes of Onkyo Pioneer for example.
He was actually nicer to it than to the Onkyo NR7100, which measured better and comes with Dirac for $550 on sale.

It’s actually weird that it’s getting voted better than the NR7100 while being $100 more at MSRP, performing worse overall, and doesn’t come with Dirac. It does have 2 subs though and 50w more @4ohm. The Power Limiting in the NR7100 is fixed now too. No doubt the MA7100HP look ways better though, I love it.

It does have 2 subs though

But are they 2 independent sub outs? I read the manual, it isn't too clear but the way they worded it, I would assume they are just two parallel outputs fed by one. If that is the case then it has not no real advantage over just one subout used with a Y connector.

It's not weird. Unlike the NR7100 with its power limiting issue, the JBL isn't broken. If they fixed the power limiting issue with a firmware update, then great. People aren't going to back and change their votes en masse, however.

That's correct, they are not independent.

The JBL had power limiting as well, so it was the same for both.

Ya I guess you’re right. I read the hard limit when trying to clip as it, and going into protect at 63hz.

Hopefully, I am missing something but it appears a 'jack' for a wired headphone is excluded from some recent introductions of AV receivers, including the new 'MA' series from JBL. I have read that 'MA' is meant to stand for 'Modern Audio'. I don't see a headphone jack on the McIntosh MHT300 and select Sony AVRs.

Honestly I never knew why a headphone jack was included. I’ve never used one, and looking at measurements they usually suck. I’d just run Line Out/Zone2 RCAs to a HP amp. I’m sure there’s a couple people out there that use them though.

Pretty sure Marantz and Integra have them if that's your thing.

Does anyone own the MA7100HP or the MA9100HP and can confirm if the spec is correct, they do not support IMAX Enhanced? Sometimes it can be pure sloppyness when it comes to spec details, so I just want to make sure they have not missed anything and in fact when signal is pushed some one can confirm it works?

Thanks!

I own the MA7100HP and do not believe it supports the "IMAX Enhanced". At least, I have never noticed it and do not see it mentioned anywhere in the documentation. Unfortunately, I don't have it hooked up at the moment due to moving houses and getting the AV up and running is lower down on the priority list than a bunch of other things at the moment.

Thank you so much for the reply.

Are you overall, satisfyed with it? I have read the "few" reviews of it, and to my understanding there is no "app" for it, that properly managed the unit, just for calibration, correct?

The app is pretty bare bones. I really only use it for dlna/upnp streaming from my NAS, much like the Wiim app. Unlike the Wiim app, it isn't much use for actual control or setup outside of that (can check for firmware updates and see/reset network settings, I believe). All the actual control and setup has to be done with remote and screen (either the AVR's or the OSD in your TV).

The EZ Set EQ is actually another completely separate app.

I like it just fine, myself. I wouldn't say it does anything in particular better than say a D/M AVR, except for having a good deal of "good enough" power on tap and looking much nicer. And getting access to Dirac at a nicer price without having to venture into the issue of the Voxx platform AVRs.

Not the revolution in AVR performance and feature set I originally hoped for, but my only regret is picking one up before they had some nice sales going at the end of the year.

Thank you. I hope they come with a new version with the imax support and better app. I was searching for a class-d avr for some time, but was rather disappointed over the two missing features,

I'm not convinced the "IMAX Enhanced" feature is something desirable. AFAICT, all it does it mess with your crossover setting. Otherwise, it's identical to just getting the DTS mastering of the soundtrack. Is there something I'm missing? If my AVR had that feature, I'd turn it off with the information I have now.

Ok. Did not know that. Thank you.
