MA9100HP and MA7100HP - low noise Class D amplification for real world power to all channels: Data Sheet

Interesting... seems the 20/7 is the date according to this site;

This one shows available to order, but not in stock;

Yet these sites are showing stock now;

Thread relocated here. Happy Sunday everyone…
There is another thread about this too, posted after this one;

pretty much £2,000 for the top line model.. let's say £1,500 for the 2nd to the top

kinda expensive given what the rear connects look like and the remote looks like nothing BUT i expect everything can be done with an app and maybe thru a web interface

i guess we are spoilt by what the japanese offer for the same money

I think we need to wait and see what real street prices end up as...

The TOTL model has similar power to an RZ70, but features more akin to an RZ50...

It has no pre-outs, but sufficient power (and current from the looks of the 4 ohm spec) - to drive pretty much any speaker.

Unlike the X3800/X4800/RZ70/RZ50, it doesn't make any pretense to being a prepro... and with 9 channels, it should do an excellent job driving a 5.2.4 setup.

It seems perfectly gauged to carve out a seperate market niche. The TOTL model and the model down, compete with those AVR's and with the setup using those AVR's that most customers use... no external power amps, and just the right number of outputs.

Another boutique product (high quality and price, low feature set) that won't put a dent in mainstream AVR pricing, unfortunately! Not having pre-outs should have kept costs down but JBL is maximizing profits! No one's mentioned this but the models that support Dirac still require a paid license:

"*MA7100HP and MA9100HP models only. Purchase a license to activate Dirac Live at www.dirac.com/online-store/"

I keep waiting for the day for Class D to be widely accepted and I can't believe we're still not there yet!

Given they are in the same market segment as Denon price wise - who also don't include Dirac...

One interesting thing on these, is they are fitted with a switching power supply... no massive transformer...

Seems to be power supply limited. Not producing twice as much power into 4 ohms as 8 ohms. Also, power is spec'd 2 channels at 0.5% THD. I'm guessing they're capable of maybe half the rated power all channels driven.

0.5% is 46 SINAD I think. That's terrible and audible!

I'm sure it's to keep the weight down. An ideal Class D AVR shouldn't weigh anywhere close to a typical AB receiver!

Thank you..Merged here.

remember this

yeah i mean in 2024 how come dirac isnt just a $99-$199 3rd party add-on for mid spec and up units

Although it doesn't double, the rise is around 71% which is not bad

The Crown XLS2500 is 440W@8ohm 770W@4ohm a rise of 75% (and then 1200W@2ohm a further rise of only 56%) - and handles 1 ohm loads without any issue.

an amp with a rise of 70% when impedance drops by half, is doing OK!

As an example of an amp that does not cope well with low impedance/high current: the Pioneer LX505 has circa 140W@8ohm and 144W@4ohm....
