Hard to say. Some do active correction. Or may have power input limitations. Or be an entirely different design.

Got a pair of these today. This EQ over stock is way better. I wouldnt listen to stcok with that bass bloat. Tweaked a little further to my tastes- shelved down the mids a bit as I find Harman peak a little too much and cut the 10k shelf down to 1 db.

But these are perfectly good IEMs- comfy and might become my new rough and ready travel companion paired with an Apple dongle

I never owned a set of IEM's before but needed some for my current circumstances. I looked at Amir's highly recommended Topping Hane's but decided to avoid them and not spend $130+ on something so new to me and not support Beijing any further. I instead decided to try the high-end (LOL) $20 JBL's. NOT BAD! Yes a little hyped in the bass but a little EQ and they're damn near perfect.. I never imagined a double sawbuck could deliver such great sounding tunes. The sensitivity is high enough to play as loud as I desire from my little 10+ yo Chromebook laptop.
Thanks Amir, these guys turned out to be one of those finds that's "good enough" .
