JBL ASB7118 Question

Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this Cinema Sub? It uses the 2269 but in a smaller enclosure then the Sub18. The ASB7118 has a Frequency Range (-10 dB): 22 Hz and a frequency response of (± 3 dB): 34 Hz. From what I have read frequency range is minimum and maximum frequencies a component can accurately reproduce and frequency response measures how consistently and accurately those frequencies are reproduced. Since this would be used in a 2 channel home environment and not pounded in a theatre, could the response be closer to the 22Hz frequency range (With DSP)? The Sub 18 is listed with a response of 18Hz but doesn't give any other information on how many db that is down. The ASB7118 cabinet looks to be much smaller, and running a pair of these would take up a lot less room. If it's not a good match then the Sub18's it is.

Thanks,
Scott

Have you really looked at the spec sheet for this thing?

The maximum SPL (1m, 25-200Hz) is 129dB continuous, 135dB peak. Assuming you're using this in a home setup, it will have zero issues blowing out your eardrums if you let it. Yeah, with a little DSP you can easily get flat down to 20Hz no problem pretty much for certain. This is a big-ass pro sub with an outrageously powerful amp. If you actually have access to this monster, go full steam ahead and don't look back is my advice.

Thanks for the reply.

I have, after many years of looking, I finally picked up a pair of woofers that I will be building cabinets for to go along with a pair of diy M2’s. I will never come even close to what these are capable of.

yea, and than there is Room-boost.
you can probably EQ this flat down to 10Hz-ish....which gives very nice rumble for some movies
