JBL 708P Review (Professional Monitor)

Page is moved or something...what is the title of the document? Great stuff, I want to read it.
The old Klein + Hummel Website had a very nice article database with all articles and old models which was taken down to make this current less helpful when Sennheiser acquired them, this was the topic, I can try to find the original PDF at my PC next week if someone is interested kd

Where is this data from? It's very interesting.

I got a chance of buying five 708p at a huge discount to replace my Yamahas MSP7 Studio monitors.

While they are coming this way, I was wondering, how are we in the reliability side with these monitors? Have we been able to track it down to a few batches of defective units? Or is it something related to innefective cooling, or...?

I worry about making the change and after warranty my JBLs all go south.

What do you reckon?

I don't have a single JBL active monitor that did not fail (four in a row, different monitors/subwoofers).

JBL is abysmal with their electronics. Just as bad as NAD or Cambridge Audio. Trash quality, made to fail.

Too bad, JBL has awesome speakers, when they work.

this is unfortunate..
can you tell me what models were the monitors and subs?
thanks

I Have a pair of 705p. Daily use for 4 years. No issue at all.
this is encouraging! when did you buy them?

how often do you turn them off/on? do you use a powerstrip to turn power on, or you you use the speakers own switch?
thanks

oh i see! so, older models ans none particularly known for issues, if I'm not wrong.

thanks!
Yeah, I had three pairs of LSR2325p purchased in Europe and USA and they all failed the same way. Very frustrating. I also remember the lsr4300 series that had their speakers finish dissolve into a sticky gooey. I'm happy to report JBL Array 1400's do not have that problem....

I had an early 708p that I bought used; at around 8 years old (3 months ago) it occassionaly wouldn't power on or play any audio and started randomly clicking when it was working (suspect a capacitor was shorting/discharging randomly). Bought a whole new electronics assembly (amp/dsp) for $550 and replaced it in 5 minutes.

8 years is not a bad run!

I suppose you bought another one as a pair and that one didn't have any issues so far?

thanks!

Correct. I bought a b-stock unit in December 2019, and other than a misaligned port (probably why it was b-stock) that caused chuffing/distortion during low frequency playback it's been fine. The port was replaced by JBL under warranty which resolved the issue.

It might be noteworthy that the firmware between the two was different, with one of them requiring a ~6db different gain setting to match to match the other. Don't remember which was which, but there was a difference between them.
