JBL 705p upgrade from Yamaha MSP7 Studio

Hi!

I've read the whole threads on 708p and 705p, and they have sparked my interest in these speakers.

I currently monitor in 5.1 with Yamaha MSP7 Studio + SW10 subwoofer and I love their sound and crispness and I find my mixes translate very well (I work mainly in post production). But my main reasons for considering upgrading are first the difficulty in scaling my monitoring to immersive and second long term reliability, since the MSPs are discontinued (there are parts still, but will there be in 15 years?). So an upgrade is due sooner or later.

I have recently found a massive discount (almost 80% off) on both JBL models, and was about to purchase five 708p, but someone bought them before I could. =( That leaves me with the 705p.

I work in a 35m², heavily treated room (2ft deep insulation on all walls and ceiling, I like dead rooms) and frequency response, time domain and reflections are all fine. Mix position after extensive measuring and testing is about 1.5m (~5 ft) from the speakers.

Is getting five 705p now a good idea? Would they actually be better suited for monitoring so close to them? The size of the 8s make it seem to me that perhaps coherence would suffer being so near to me, even though I know they are the better speaker, I'm just trying to see half full glasses here.

What would you say about the "notable flaws" found in the 705p, after all this time? I know those flaws look bad on tests for a speaker of this price bracket, but every single review I've seen, specially from people in post, praises them (while not addressing any of those specific issues). Are they irrelevant in acual use?

Is there anyone who has familiarity with the Yamahas and could compare the two directly, by any chance? Their spec sheets are pretty close in numbers (SPL, Distortion), apart from bass extension which is not a problem for me since I use a sub and always will.

I guess the alternative would be invest the money for now and let it compound interest until I can find another sweet deal on 708p, but I don't know if I'll ever see such a discount ever again (I'm in Brazil).

Any information or thoughts on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Nervermind. Apparently the buyer cancelled their purchase and the 708ps came back into stock. I snatched them at an 85% discount!

I'm stoked!
