Wow , first things first ..., upgrade that internal speaker wire, everyone knows that clear plastic jacket means it’s shite.

Then it’s onto replacing all those inadequate connectors, you gotta solder all those up Michael.

Let’s get some branded caps in there! Come on, I know you mostly listen to over compressed modern trash but please make some kind of a effort .

Wait a minute, your not planing on taking those glorious anal-log passive networks out and trying a active/software base crossover ??? ,,,, ok .., your dead to me.

I’m thinking on the best way to set up direct speaker wire connection to the amps.

It looks like the speaker terminals are soldered to the internal wires.

To get external speaker wire connected from amp to mid/woofer and compression D2 driver, I have to remove the speaker terminals. The mid/woofer has clips for bare speaker wire and the D2 compression driver is connected with female wire clips. Connecting speaker wire to the mid/woofer would be super easy. But it would be a little tricky to clip speaker wire onto the D2 compression driver. I’d have to do it blind.

Any expert DIY advice is welcomed as long as it’s limited to helping me connect the drivers directly to the AHB2 amps.

I’m not interested in replacing analog parts. :)

Hmmm. Why does the compression driver have four wires on it?
It’s called D2 because it has dual diaphragms. It’s a patented JBL design.

It’s labelled “rear driver” and “front driver”.

Maybe.

Bill of Materals:

http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?37497-Jbl-4367/page5

Spades: F.250 (1/4") on the drawing, maybe also F.187 (but not shown on this generic parts page)

https://www.infraredheaters.com/terminal.html

Similar .187 (3/16"):

http://www.elecdirect.com/crimp-wir...p-terminals-16-14ga-wire-blue-187-nylon-100pk

Looking at the drawing again, two sizes are used so you can't mess up pushing them on blindly. If wrong, one won't fit.

I assume that means you have to send reverse phase signal to the rear one vs front. How are you going to do that in active configuration? Two channels for that one driver?

The internal wire only has one pair connection to the compression driver. It looks like the second compression driver jumps off from the other compression driver. IOW, it doesn’t appear that each compression driver is connected to the crossover board. Maybe I’m missing something. Please tell me if I am.

All the pictures I see of the raw driver look like this:

Jumpered.

You probably connect the crossover to the + of one and the - of the other, series connection through the voice coils.

Thank you Ray!

When I set up the crossover, I’ll have to be careful to level match the drivers from the outset. The woofer is 8 ohms and the compression driver is 16 ohms. So I’m sure the compression driver will be higher sensitivity. I plan to play a custom pink noise in REW to cover only the crossover region through each driver and then level match them. I can use the amps to level match or the DACs each have different analog output as well. So I should be able to match the drivers’ outputs without resorting to extensive digital attenuation.

I will also measure the existing crossover in REW and use a digital crossover that is most similar in frequency and slope. I can check to make sure each driver has same polarity as well.

Don't break it.

http://reconingspeakers.com/product/jbl-d2430k-tweeter-jbl-446213-001x-for-vtx/

Price: $1599.00 each.

That shop is here in Tampa... I bought horn driver replacements for the band from them (in 1982), but that was only $100 or so (then).
I’ve broken a few drivers. In almost every case, I was in a hurry to take a measurement. I’ve learned to plan things out. Ive even found that if I write down my routing on a piece of paper it really helps to organize things.
